Allen's non-denial denial is typical Republican 101...
"I don't remember ever using that word."

Of course not. No republican ever seems to remember anything negative, unless it involves Bill Clinton's penis. It doesn't matter what it is, they convenient "forget" some of the most seminal moments of their lives.

I know I've used "the N word," although "I don't remember" exactly when, what date or time, or anything. But I don't deny that I've ever uttered the word, in any context. Why couldn't Allen simply have given a credible answer like that? Simple. "You know, I'm sure at some point I might have used that word, but it was not, as my detractors are intimating, a regular part of my vocabulary." Even that might still have been a lie, but at least it sounds a little bit credible. Trying to claim he NEVER said "the N word" just smacks of in-your-face "I don't care if you know I'm lying" bullshit yet again, from another lying republican.

"I don't remember." Yeah, right. How conveeeeeeeenient.

2. Who cares it is so long ago. That is how Southern talked
I say look at Byrd. One can change his mind. He should just say he did it and say he has learned. That is what most thinking people do. We all have to learn things and he may have learned. That is may, but with this guy I feel not.

6. I will not hold that against him
My mother always wore cowboy boots and cowboy pants and we lived in Maine and it was in the 40's. Let me tell you that was shocking to people but she looked great. We did own horses. I frankly thought my mother was great and every ones mother was dull as can be. I know it is a ego thing with these men but what can one do? What can I say about my mother?

9. No it was not and it was my mother. My grandmother went up
in to her attic and painted all these lovely oil painting for her home as they seemed classy to her. Every one thought she had bought them as she went to the Hudson River sort of school for them. My mother just thought she looked good, I guess, and they were easy to wear. Pants on most women were not around when we were kids for every day women. They were just sort of coming in with war plants and movie stars. And one had to give up a shoe stamp for leather boots. Shoe stamps in WW2 were a big problem for a tom boy like me who put every pair of shoes I owned through the works.

5. "To my recollection, I don't have a recollection"
-Colin Powell testifying about his role in Iran-Contra

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2000/121900b.html

In 1987, when congressional Iran-contra investigators asked about the intercepts and other evidence of Pentagon knowledge, Powell again pleaded a weak memory. He repeatedly used phrases such as "I cannot specifically recall." At one point, Powell said, "To my recollection, I don't have a recollection."

When asked if Weinberger kept a diary that might shed more light on the issue, Powell responded, "The Secretary, to my knowledge, did not keep a diary. Whatever notes he kept, I don't know how he uses them or what he does with them. He does not have a diary of this ilk, no." As for his own notebooks, Powell announced that he had destroyed them.

10. Remember the Martin Short character who always denied everything?
He sweat profusely and had the long cigarette ash. That's what Allen reminds me of.

11. 35 years ago was a long time. I would hope we have all changed -
- since then. Webb has now been asked about his use of the N-word and is saying much the same as Allen. This seems like a lose/lose debate to me.

Virginia Democrat dodges question on race slur

(from the article . . . )

"Webb referred to his novel, “Fields of Fire,” which aides said includes occurrences of the n-word as part of character dialogue. But he added: “I have never issued a racial or ethnic slur.”
