My lights just went on about John Conyers
As noted in another thread here on DU, he will introduce a resolution of inquiry related to the recently partially leaked NIE and a sister document still being kept secret.

But that's just the inspiration. My point is .....

If we want to find some future fighters for real democracy, we ought to be recruiting the staffers in John Conyers' office. That is not to take one damned thing away from the esteemed Mr. Conyers, for whom I hold the highest respect and admiration ... and yes, to whom I feel a debt.

But look at all this man has had done in his name.

His blog activities.

His hearings.

His resolutions.

His voice.

His statements.

And so much more. For so many, many years. Back to the Watergate days.

We all know that no one man can literally do all that gets done over his signature. His staff, therefore, has to be given some real credit. I can not help but believe there are some great minds there. Some great strategists. Some rabid partisans.

I want names.

I want to know where they live.

I want them to run for office.

What an amazing organization is the office - and the man - of one John Conyers of Michigan. And what an inspiration it must be to work for a man like him. I can only imagine what a caring mentor he must be. I envy them their jobs.

2. I'm with you and it's people like these that should be groomed
by the DNC for future offices, either elected or appointed within the party.

Conyers is at the top of the list when I consider people who should be spared in my own admitted anti incumbent fever, and that is due in a very large part to the excellent staff he has assembled.

I can't think of a single nitpick or quibble, H2S, a first for me.

3. We can't expect him to be with us forever
But I hope he is until he is 100 years old.
And his staff is a great resource that should be used.

4. You want them to run against Conyers?
Because Conyers' district is one of only a handful of places in this country that Conyers himself could win. And truth told, nearly all of those other districts are already being held by people as good as Conyers.

10. I fully understand the spirit of the post.
It's just that there's a severe misjudgement about Conyers in that a lot of people here think he could win in any district in the country and that we should have 250 Conyers running for office. It just ain't gonna happen.

12. I'm not one of them
I fully understand the dynamic of the top members of the CBC getting elected and what their districts mean to their ability to say what they say.

7. Not just as candidates, but as all manner of political operatives.
In the county/state offices, as interns, as spokespeople, etc.

9. Right on. I have thought about these staffers many times.
So often it is posted, "Send it to Conyers!". Of course it is his staff that receives it, separates the wheat from the chaff, organizes it and does research and footwork.

They surely are studying under THE BEST, but I also think he PICKS THE BEST!
