OR it just sounds like some bizarre hatchet job. Not having proff of allegations like this can just do us more harm than good. I kinda don't doubt it, but I want some verification that it really happened.

There are no personal recollections of a report of a severed animal head by the Louisa County police at that time. Yet they don't think that any records from back then would be preserved to verify or deny the claim.

Indeed, it would be nice to find a family that was living near Bumpass, VA, 40 miles east of the university that recalls finding this bit of hate mail in their box.

to forget. The family might not have called the police. Hope someone comes forward from the family. But without some verification it's just an unfounded allegation.

Not in that region at that time, anyway. I also hope that someone from the family decides to come forward. If I were in that area I'd be checking the old property tax logs looking for who it may have been.
