Something big is coming re. George Allen!!
Apparently this is the site to watch, Allen in meltdown.

"I'm hearing that Republicans are slowly starting to back away from George Allen. In a year where the House of Representatives and Senate may be decided, who wants to be associated with George Allen? He has quite a taint. As more Republicans peel away, Allen's withdrawal will become inevitable."

heir-apparent. One heir-head deserves another, I guess...(referring to george FELIX allen - "Mr. Hakuna Macaca!")

12. I hate to say it, but some of this stuff reminds me
of swiftboating. Before the flaming arrows start to fly, let me explain.

Yes, he focused attention on himself with his tirade against a native Virginian whose skin was darker than he'd like and slung the slur "macaca." That quite rightly focused some attention on whether or not he's really that racist, which he is. He was fed racism in the cradle with his Pablum. A lot of us were. He just never discarded it like the rest of us did.

Outing his apparently quite secular Jewish heritage was below the belt. There are a lot of Jews in this world who were either forcibly converted hundreds of years ago or who voluntarily converted recently in mixed marriages. Why this should be an issue at all is utterly beyond me. Of course, his obvious shame and defensiveness haven't helped the situation, but it's something that should never have been brought up. It's reminiscent of the attacks on Kerry for being French, a Jew, a Hungarian, whatever.

Recent evidence of his racism is an appropriate subject. Racism when he was young and stupid is not. Discussion of the instability that provoked the "macaca" attack is an appropriate subject. His ethnic heritage is not.

I have no love at all for George F. Allen, not even a vague liking. I barely tolerate his existence on the same planet, to tell the truth. However, I really hate to see Democrats stooping to Rovian levels in some of the attacks on the man. There is so much to hang him with. Why bother with irrelevancies?

13. Allen is the one who made his ethnic "heritage" an issue.
It would have been a non-issue if he hadn't become so defensive and obnoxious about it.

Allen made his bed, now he can sleep in it.

15. ABSOLUTELY NOT ... The fact is ...
This isn't "Swiftboating" and it isn't "democrats" ...

This is the MEDIA, doing its job ... As noted in the previous post, this guy was on the short list to be the repugs 2008 candidate for president ... He should NEVER have gotten this far ... He is a slightly more intelligent and capable GWB ... Bottom line, which makes him WHOLEY unsuitable to even be a senator, much less a president ...

SAME thing ... A guy with limited executive capabilities - intelligence and adaptability, who created some kind of faux persona that the sleeping masses bought ... A kid from a privileged California upbringing who somehow morphsed into a cowboy boot wearing "good old boy" ... A superficial identity created for political appeal ... Add in a good dose of evangilical pandering, and he was the next bushco ...

The fact is, the MEDIA is exposing him as the phony he is, and for being as unsuitable for elected office as he is ...

I saw Howard Dean on CNN when the macaca thing broke ... Dean in one of his frank moments said something to the effect that he knew Allen from when they both were governors, that he liked him, but he was completetly unsuited for elected office at that level - and really emphasized the last part ...

He was questioned further on it, and you could tell he had A LOT more he could have said said, but he didn't want to pile on, or open up a pile of worms that would just be labeled as "partisan" ...

Again, the media is doing its job, and frankly, if they had done their job with BUSHCO, really dug up his garbage and fleshed it out, this country would be in a MUCH better place today, be it Gore or even McCain ...

17. I would stand corrected
but I don't see the good puppy media out there scrounging for dirt on the guy. They love him, in fact, a white, southern, holy roller conservative who will keep the corporatists in power and the gravy train on track.

I'm a little suprised any of them have reported it, although I haven't seen anything but Allen's vehement denials in mainstream media, not the original stories.

19. I think bringing up the fact that he is Jewish is valid in this case
It is in response to his fondness for confederate flags and hanging out with Klan members and naming his son after the KKK founder Nathan Forrest. All of this association with anti-semitic people and he is actually Jewish? It's a valid issue. He's hiding his identity to get the bigot vote. Exposing hypocrisy like this is a reporter or an opponent's job way before Rove.

It's as if someone was all against gay marriage and civil rights and then we find out that they are gay themselves. Normally outing someone randomly would be wrong but if they are activelt anti-gay it would be an issue. I'm ok with it.

20. Weren't the Swift Boaters Paid?
The "official" Dems are not out there attacking Allen. He is shooting himself in the foot over and over. For us not to react would be ridiculous. I can't see this as swift boating at all. The reality is if Allen hadn't opened his big, racist mouth, he wouldn't be in this position. And when he was questioned his responses were exactly who he is. That is not the questioner's fault.

What is more upsetting to me, as a resident of Virginia, are those who say this will help him get elected in VA!

23. Re: His Jewish heritage
Honestly, he brought this on himself. It came out last week that his mother revealed to him over a month ago that she was Jewish. The fact that he lied about it after the fact is disturbing. If he'd lie over something that is so easily verified, what else is he lying about??? It really says something about his character and fitness for office so I believe the criticism is justified in this instance.

But knowing the republicans they will probably force him to give up the race & then Bush will make him a new secretary of something or the other.

This guy's ego and cluelessness are rivaled only by that of Katherine Harris (R, Horseface).

21. Yeah, if you go out to New Mexico and Arizona
The more traditional-style adobe homes out there are furnished with Native American blankets on the wall, chili pepper ristras hanging from the ceiling in the kitchen, and hand-worked decorative mailboxes with deers in them (made by local artists), and those are usually placed next to the family noose.

Now, y'all stop picking on Felix, y'hear! :)

10. Watching the steady drip drip drip of negative stories about Felix
I can't help but believe that someone very highly placed wants him out of there. None of the r/w talking heads have come to his defense, nobody has held a puff piece interview with him (perky katie style), and even the weekly standard has trashed him on its cover no less. This is a guy who doesn't look like presidential material and I think the powers that be in the repuke hierarchy have decided to knock the living shit out of his presidential aspirations before a senate election win gives him momentum.

16. NYT: Another, unrelated claim of his using the N-word -
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/27/us/politics/27allen.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
<snip>
"Mrs. Hawkins, who described herself as a rural Virginia housewife and an active Democrat, said in an interview Tuesday that she heard Mr. Allen use the slur repeatedly at a party on election night in 1976. She said Mr. Allen used the term while deprecating the intelligence of the black players on the Washington Redskins football team, which Mr. Allen’s father coached. Recalling remarks about its star running back, Larry Brown, Mrs. Hawkins said that Mr. Allen “started in effect bad-mouthing him, saying what a shiftless you-know-what” he was.

She said she remembered the conversation because she was a big fan of the team and was shocked. She said Mr. Allen’s statement on Monday was “just plain a lie.”

and it insults the Home Team - and I thought he came from a 'football family'?!

...making racist remarks, having a noose hanging in his office, his love of the Confederate (Traitor) Flag, etc., etc.?
