They optically scan millions of lottery tickets each day
with little to no problem...

Why can't we have paper ballots that, for the sake of instant gratification, are optically scaned...

Then we would have a paper trail...

You could even have automatic recounts...

I just don't get it...

1. you are given a paper receipt, and you are supposed to review it
for errors ...

unlike the voting machines ...

Hell, even an ATM gives you a paper trail ... since they first came out ...

2. Well, the cynic in me would say..........
They don't want you to have a paper trail........

It makes cheating easier without it, after all..........

But if they're less evil than I think they are, then......

I don't get it either........

A very good question........

4. If you think no more of the office of the President ...
than you do of the one dollar lottery ticket, then count on optical scanners. As far as reality goes, optical scanners were a real problem in the 2004 election.

Florida

The counties that used optical scanner machines to record votes showed a consistent pattern of far more votes for Bush and far less votes for Kerry than projected, based on the number of registered republicans and democrats.

The ballots in 2004 in Ohio that had a white sticker over the Kerry vote were read by optical scanner.

7. All I'm sayin' is...
As far as reality goes, optical scanners were a real problem in the 2004 election. Ignore me as you wish.

Also, Canada isn't under control of maniacal neocons bent on destroying us all.

But yes, in theory, optical scanners could be reliable.
