Help these boards! Use that 'alert' button whenever necessary.

(From DU rules):

Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party.

20. There are indeed some Democrats I wish
had been defeated in primaries. So sue me.

Any Democrat who voted for torture and the suspension of habeas corpus is simply not worthy of the name. I would hope we could oust them at the first opportunity through primary elections.

In the meantime, they'll contribute to a body count, so we're stuck with them.

21. Easy man.
I don't think anyone here is happy with these so called Dems, or the path our country is going down.

Change takes time, we need at least one chamber in congress to start making these changes. We can deal with these traitorous shitheads after that.

28. Let the mods handle this
I'm not going to stop criticizing Dems who I think deserve it (or the DNC for that matter). Luckily there aren't very many.

But since when did it become the rule that we all have to walk in lockstep with each other? And who's going to be The Decider when it comes to what our Party Line is? That sounds to me like how the folks on the other side of the fence operate.

If speaking my mind as a member of the family gets me kicked out then fine. But it won't be you who does it, it'll be the ones who are actually running the show around here

38. Fight them in their next primary. But vote for them in the coming general
election. It's all about the "body count" as someone above said. Even the worst Dem counts in our drive to take majority -- which is absolutely essential if Congress is ever to exercise oversight of the Bush Administration.

54. Yes freedom of speech is such a bad thing.
We might as well forget having a convention in 2008 and just give Hillary the nomination now and toss Howard Dean from the DNC and have the DLC consolidate power. Then we can get rid of lawmakers like Dennis Kucinich, Jim McDermott, Barbara Lee, and Russ Feingold and replace them with those who will be in tune with the DLC. :eyes: :sarcasm: :eyes:

13. There's nothing in these 'rules'....
...that says that one can't criticize the Democratic leadership if they're NOT DOING THEIR JOB. What IS their job? First and foremost...to protect and defend the Constitution and REPRESENT the best interests of the People.

It's too bad that 'some' think that ANY kind of criticism is out of bounds.

This is EXACTLY WHY the Bushies are out of control. No one in their own party dare criticize them.

It's even worse when the Democratic opposition won't join forces to bring them to justice.

Do not post broad-brush smears against those with ligitimate complaints against elected/appointed Democratic officials.

40. No, actually, it isn't. We're facing a tough general election now.
And we have to retain all the Dem seats we have in order to take control of the House and or Senate.

The time to fight these people (the 34 house members and 12 Senators) constructively is during the primaries, not now.

I reserve the right to ensure that the Democratic Leadership still realizes that they work for me.

I won't alert for dissent, as it is patriotic. I will alert for calls to defeat Democratic candidates in general elections, and calls to not bother voting.

If you are disappointed in your representatives, let them know. Let them know that you're holding your nose and voting for them this time, and if they don't clean up their act you'll do everything in your power to Lamont them right out of office.

I didn't say "If Lieberman is NOT a member of the Democratic party".

In any case, I wasn't "defending" his vow to run as an independent or defending the other poster. I asked a rhetorical question. If you had searched my posts, you would have found several times where I criticized Lieberman's decision to run as an independent, and said that he should drop out and let Lamont run against the Republican.

You were saying?

44. Is our goal to end legalized torture? OK, here's what we're gonna do.
We're done with the Democrats who let us down. Let's all do this instead:

Send money to/volunteer for one or more of the following:

1) any Democrat running who voted NO on this BS torture bill
2) any of the Fighting Dems
3) any Democrat opposing a sitting Republican Senator/Representative
4) any Democrat running for Secretary of State (THESE RACES ARE CRUCIAL. WE DON'T WANT MORE KATHERINE HARRISES!)

NOT ONE OF THEM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS TORTURE BILL!

It doesn't have to be someone from your state or district. You can find SOMEBODY worthy of your money and/or your time, and they desperately need you. Democrats are outmatched in campaign dollars 5 to 1.

Here's one suggestion I think we can all get behind:

BENEDICT LIEBERMAN VOTED YES! SEND MONEY TO https://secure.nedlamont.com/page/contribute">NED LAMONT!!!

Dem majorities in the House or Senate are the first step toward overturning this crappy bill. We can do this!
