It is good to see some ads asking Bush about Darfur.
The photos are heart wrenching and I was wondering about making it a campaign issue. How much better we could feel, and how much good we could do to use the might of the United states to help the people of Darfur, instead of making a mess in Iraq.
I think that most Americans do think of themselves as generous people and, yes, as proud Americans. How much prouder they could be if we send money an people to places like Darfur, where it is so much clearer who the bad guys and the good ones are.
A place like Darfur can be an ideal pool for seeds of a new wave of terrorism to germinate. This is how Hamas and Hezbollah started, by exploiting the vacuum and the misery of people to offer food and shelter and medical treatment and a dose of hatred and of zealotry.
