1. The poll should say
"Will you help vote Bush back into office?"

2. I don't think it's that simple.
Endorsing a candidate with your vote is a very serious business, and DUers can be expected to be conflicted about voting for someone at odds with their own views.

6. I was under the Impression...
...that the one whose views were at odds with ours was resident bush.

One major difference between the rethuglicans and us is that we have so many people who are willing to let the party be defeated because they only agree with 97% of what the cndidate believes in.

I thought that we would have learned lessons from 1972 &1980.

Too many people here would rather sacrifice the next four years, and countless lives ( servicemen/women ) for their principles. I can see it now. In the voting booth thinking, "I'm gonna write this guy in because our nominee is {insert petty cliche here} and I don't like it!" So what do we get, another four years of evil upon our nation. Hope you feel great about yourselves you write-in-voters. Just do the rest of us a favor. Spew that shit on another message board. Thanks, bye.

13. You'd be mad, too, if...
You'd be mad, too, if they'd done to your candidate what they did to ours.

If we put the wrong Democrat in the White House, he'll just get voted out in 2008, and then we'll NEVER get it back. I had a co-worker once who was always eager to join a team project. But then he never came to the meetings, and when we found he never did his assignments we soon stopped giving him any. Once the project was successfully finished, he was always right there front and center, smiling and nodding, ready to share in the glory. It was worse than being a headcount short. Kerry may rise to the occasion, but usually character doesn't change.

4. I do not agree with 100% anything any of our canidates say
This is a republic, I have to compromise a vote to elect a leader who can best represent my voice.

I'd much rather vote myself or have my clone elected.

7. To compromise values by supporting a candidate who doesn't have the same
I would assume the worst-case scenario for the nominee in terms of values conflict, in order to answer this question.

How Karl Rove of you! :)

I will register new voters, but I'm not opening my wallet if John Kerry is the nominee.

12. who's the worst?
Just consider the worst of the Dems still in the race, and ask whether you'd prefer him or Bush. At this point, i think assuring that the Patriot Act and similar unconstitutional acts will not be renewed/pursued is important enough that i'm willing to compromise on other issues.

15. What I may do
I have lots of time to decide, but what I may do is just leave the Presidential line blank. That way no one can blame my candidate for being a spoiler, as they could if I wrote in his name, and it's not his fault. It will be the first time in my life I didn't vote for President.

17. Here is how I would poll on this issue
"Are you so fucking inflexible that you insist the Democratic nominee not only perfectly reflect your views on every issue, but also be a superhero who boosts your self-esteem and validates your feelings, before you will vote for them?"

Results:

Yes: 20%
No: 80%

19. In 2000...
...I was told that a vote for Nader was a vote for Bush, then I was informed that a vote for Nader was a vote against Bush, then a vote for Buchanan was a vote for Gore, and a vote for Gore wouldn't be counted...

cram the loyalty oaths, any nominee must earn my vote. i will not vote for Bush. that's it, can you stop asking now, or maybe just do it via irritating robocalls in the middle of the night?

Make up your own mind about Nader, Bush and Gore, and then do what you think is right.

Bolivia's Poor Proclaim Abiding Distrust of Globalization By LARRY ROHTER

Published: October 17, 2003 (NY TIMES)

A PAZ, Bolivia, Oct. 15 — The many Indian protesters who choked the streets and highways of this Andean nation again on Thursday may be poor and speak broken or accented Spanish, but they have a powerful message.
It is this: no to the export of gas and other natural resources; no to free trade with the United States; no to globalization in any form other than solidarity among the downtrodden peoples of the developing world.

The force of that message may yet topple President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada, who tried to quell the unrest by offering a package of concessions late Wednesday night that the protesters rejected.
Instead they vowed to continue with demonstrations meant to force his government to abandon a plan to export natural gas to the United States through a port in Chile. The protests have already left more than 80 people dead over the past month.

Sensing that public support for the president, weak to begin with, has all but vanished, opponents of the gas export plan have now moved to press their advantage.
"The blood that has been spilled is something sacred," Felipe Quispe, leader of the indigenous group that initiated the protests, said in response to Mr. Sánchez de Lozada's offer, made in a televised speech. "So we can't negotiate and we're not even going to talk."
Several thousand workers, mostly miners from the south and coca growers from the north, were reported to be marching on the capital Thursday. The armed forces demanded that they disperse, saying that the military would erect barricades to prevent them from entering La Paz, but the warning appeared to have gone unheeded.
More than merely threatening the longevity of Bolivia's government, the protesters have lent new energy to the discontent already percolating throughout the region.

Across South America, labor unions, student and civic groups and a new wave of leaders — Hugo Chávez in Venezuela, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil, and Néstor Kirchner in Argentina — are expressing similar doubts about who actually benefits from a free flow of international trade and investment.

23. If need be, of course I will.
Every single candidate running on our side is orders of magnitude better-qualified to be POTUS than Bush is, so I will not foolishly cut off my nose to spite my face by refusing to vote for a candidate other than my own preferred one.

24. If Kucinich is not the nominee, it's a compromise...
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 04:28 PM by ThirdWheelLegend
Sharpton would not be much of a compromise. He has very similar views to Dennis K. All of the remaining candidates are just varying degrees of corporate centrism. DK is so far ahead of the rest, anything less is a compromise.

25. Even Dennis takes some compromises (e.g. flag amendment)
But he (or Al) is by far more in tune with my own views than any other candidate. So yes, I would say effectively, compared to the other candidates, Kucinich takes no compromise.

That is the one issue on which I take uhm.. issue with DK.

Other than that there is no compromise in my beliefs to vote for Dennis Kucinich.

26. Hell no. We will endure Bush as we await the coming of the Messiah.
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 04:26 PM by oasis
He will reward us in 2008 for standing by our principals and faith. He will vanquish the Bush Supreme Court and re-instate Roe v Wade. He will withdraw our troops from the PNAC wars in Syria and Iran. He will immediately clean up the polluted air we would have had to breathe for those four additional years.

Messiah, you da' man. (or woman)....cough, cough.
