They don't care about the Constitution. They only care about diddling young boys.

2. Sick bastard = Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL)
Edited on Thu Sep-28-06 11:58 PM by Botany
"I just e-mailed Will ... he is such a nice guy .... acts much older than his age ......
he's in really great shape .... i am just finished with riding my bike journey on a 25 mile journey
and now heading to the gym .... what is school like for you this year?"

I am willing to bet anybody that Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL), is a family values flag
waving born again bush loving man.

bingo from his web site

7/11/2006
FOLEY INTRODUCES SWEEPING LEGISLATION ATTACKING INTERNET CHILD PORN INDUSTRY
WASHINGTON - {Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) introduced legislation last night along
with Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA) that goes after the Internet child porn
industry and for the first time would hold credit card companies and Internet service
providers accountable if they knowingly facilitate child pornography.

Their anti gay, anti abortion, anti child pornography, family value & Christian beliefs are all a front for the real person inside. Not one of them are interested in real values.

3. Everyone of them is tainted...and Rove has all the gory details
on each.

Seriously, given the obviously criminal nature of the Republican Syndicate today, yopu don't think they are interested in running people with integrity and principles, right? That would be counter-productive for their collective well-being. I imagine the ideal candidate has plenty of skeletons and weaknesses to exploit. But they need to have 2 qualifications: (1) being an unabashed hypocrite who will do or say anything to get elected and (2) will not 'rock the boat'. That means no investigation of Republican administrations and voting as per the financial interests of Syndicate. It's a pretty sweet arrangement

36. That's an interesting theory.
It certainly would explain a lot. I wonder if Foley's done anything recently to rock the boat? Has he recently voted against something Bush wanted, or spoke out against him?

5. I can understand why the kid was creeped out...
... but the e-mails aren't exactly a smoking gun.

He may well have been right that the guy was on his way to crossing a line and making an unwanted pass at him, but it seems unfair to publicly accuse this guy of being a pedophile when:

* The e-mails may raise an eyebrow but don't amount to a sexual advance
* The recipient is over the age of consent and is no longer (if I understand the story correctly) employed by Congress, so it wouldn't be workplace harrassment

It seems quite plausible, maybe even likely, that those advances would be forthcoming, but at most this seems a premature "exposé."

28. Presumably there must be smoke where there's fire here
Give the GOP's amazing ability to duck responsibility for their sins, there must be some *bad* smoking gun evidence well beyond what was in those e-mails that surfaced earlier.

More'n likely he figured falling on his sword immediately was the only chance he had to not roast over this. Out of the public eye, no doubt he'll be able swing a sweetheart deal over whatever he's done.

Based on the evidence I saw in those emails, it's only damning if one begins with the presumption that he is a perv and a predator.

On edit: now he is resigning so maybe there is more to this story and more basis to these claims that we will learn very soon.

Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 02:24 PM by LynneSin
I mean I remember when I was a kid and I met George Gekas. The creep dared asked me how old I was, never realized he was was trying to diddle me!

Ok, first, that story is absolutely true; however, Gekas asked because he wanted me to get involved with some community activities and wanted an idea of my age to make recommendations AND my father was standing right there. Gekas even gave me his business card and said it was good for a free ice cream cone in New Zealand. Of course Gekas was still a doddering old fool which is why he lost in 2002 to Tim Holden.

I'm not saying that this Foley guy is innocent - just want to see more than a few details before I slap something as serious as 'pedophile' on him.

25. Me too... I'm anxious for MadFlorida & our other Floridian DU'ers to...
..comment about this pervert.

According to the talking heads, he would have been a shoe-in for re-election.. Yet they also note that the area he's in is not red or blue, but is very much "right down the middle" and that this can only be good news for his Democratic opponent.

If Jim West of Spokane wouldn't have kicked the bucket, they could've jailed the two together.

34. You're not alone, but I doubt we have much company
No one here is that sensitive. We've been desperate for a sex scandal and now there's blood in the water. I guess the stakes are too high for consistency or integrity. We arm teens with condoms, birth control, and fight to let her make her own decisions about abortion. Ask any girl of any age if she's ever received suggestive comments from a much older man. It's called sexual harassment when a dirty old man leers and ogles a teenage female. It happens so often it's often ignored. Yet here we are, screaming pedophile, predator, monster for the same thing but the teenager is a male. It's homophobia and it validates the gay panic defense. Does anyone think the same overtures from Heather Locklear would elicit such a panicked reaction: "sick sick sick sick ................."?

I call bullshit too.
