Both are racists & sexists! How did we get to this point in 2006?

16. No, but I've seen enough relevant activities
by both Webb and Allen that I'm convinced Webb is the best candidate, and Allen wouldn't make a good assistant manager at Applebee's.
If you have a more productive idea than supporting Webb during the election, I wouldn't know of it. :)

33. Have you seen what Webb said about it - he admits it too!
He knew it was coming up and spoke about it with Tim Russert. Unlike Allen, Webb has admitted to making some bad choices back then and said if he knew then what he knows now he would have never acted like that.

I would be honored to have Webb as my senator

3. N-word & guns
A Vietnam vet who interviewed U.S. Senate candidate Jim Webb for a newspaper article in 1983 says the Democrat told him of college pranks he took part in 20 years earlier in which racial epithets were used and guns pointed at African Americans on the streets of Watts.

4. You take this joker's word for it?
Without evidence or corroboration?

From a guy so flakey he doesn't remember why the incidents aren't mentioned in his tape or his transcript of the interview?

From a guy who in his own words was "devastated" by Webb's party switch?

I don't.

11. Allen made comments last month
Webb has said he was simply wrong in his attitudes about women, I'll have to wait to hear more about this Watts riots thing. The difference is that it's a life pattern for Allen, from high school to college to governors office to right now.

So what's going on with the Democrats in your own state?

25. Yes it is a stretch, and here's another
Equating Allen's month-old remarks with something Webb wrote 27 years ago. All other allegations of sexism that I came across in my search are unsubstantiated. You know, without that pesky "proof" that doesn't seem to bother you. And with very few exceptions they are posted on rightwing sites, thanks ever so, now I have to clean their crummy cookies off my browser.

I remember 1979 real well; Webb's attitude was pretty much the norm among alpha males in business as well as military - probably still is, and women have always had to develop strategies to deal with it. But there is not even a hint of an accusation that he actually impeded the military careers of any females - and that, not calling someone horny, is the real proof of sexism. But I'm wasting my time here...I doubt sexism is really one of your hot buttons unless you can use it to bash a Dem.

He has both tapes and transcripts of the interview but mysteriously doesn't have any tape or transcript of this very inflamatory item. That happens to journalists all the time. They interview people and get them to say banal things then forget to record the meaty stuff. This is a transparent lie.

He probably knew they would come to light with all the stuff coming out about Allen. But unlike Allen, Webb has not denied anything but admits to making poor choices that he would have made differently had he known then what he knows now.

I think Webb is AWESOME!

And that is the end of that.

Allen continues to make racist statements to this day.

That is the difference.

Shit Robert C. Byrd used to be in the goddamn KKK but now admits he was wrong.

Allen does not even admit to be a racist fuck who kept the confederate flag and lynching nooses in his office.

That makes a difference to me.

38. Plus Allen keeps denying he's done anything racist
Hell, I grew up in rural PA and I'm sure sometime during my youth living amongst people who had vile attitudes towards anyone not 'white-like-me' I've probably said comments that I totally, absolutely regret. But as I grew and matured I realized how wrong I was and tried to distance myself from those who still said that kind of crap and believed it. That's why I moved to the Philly area after graduation. I was tired of living around people who thought it was ok to say racist, sexist comments

40. Jim Webb is not a racist or sexist.
His single issue...27 years ago...was women in military. I remember that time. Even many of the biggest supporters of Women's Rights, that would include many women, had a problem with this. We had been through Viet Nam and the draft. People dreamed of their daughters going to the prom...not going into combat. Right or wrong...that's the way it was. He regrets his views, he has apologized and since then has treated women in the military with the respect they deserve.

Then there's George. In 1995 he opposed women in the VMI:

GOV. ALLEN: The federal government, with nothing better to do, wants to pester VMI. But for well over 150 years it has produced outstanding citizens. It is doing a perfectly good job. There’s no reason to change it.

Now, I think that women who want that sort of an experience and educational opportunity should be provided with it. But if VMI admitted women, it wouldn’t be the VMI that we’ve known for 154 years. You just don’t treat women the way you treat fellow cadets. If you did, it would be ungentlemanly, it’d be improper.
