Did we blow the torture bill?
I would like to think that we might have staged a mass protest over the torture bill had there been more time. Had everyone against this bill displayed a post Abu Graib abuse in their window, flyers, demonstrations, media, etc., could we have stopped this bill?

2. We could not have stopped this bill

The threats were made, the incriminating photos were at the ready...no way BushCo was giving anyone a pass on this. This was about Bush's "get out of jail free" card, nothing more, nothing less, and I'm sure they made certain that their asses were covered. I don't think even storming the capital would have made the slightest bit of difference.

3. Don't forget junta control of election fraud, electronic and regular type.
THAT's a pretty big stick to use in keeping the rubber stamps in line.

5. Not only Bush's jail pass
I am sure in his closed session with R's he made it clear that if he is tried senators will be tried as well. Congress thinks it has covered its own ass. Hope they are disappointed some day.

4. Blew it, yes-but there should NOT be 1,000 threads here on the same topic!
Sorry Betsy.. I'm not picking on you personally.

But a lot of political pundits are saying that Democrats knew that they had a better chance of "win now, change the bill as soon as they're in power" than had they handed the r-THUGS further bogus ammunition to campaign on.

Like one of our incredible moderators tried to stress last night ---- we have to STOP these continuous criticisms of Democrats here at DU and open our eyes to what the THUGS are doing right now!!

The election is LESS THAN 40 DAYS NOW !!!

Democrats are not in charge of anything right now and when they DO take charge, all Hell will break loose!

But creating the umpteenth thread on the same topic serves absolutely no purpose towards getting to that victory where we will finally have a VOICE.

Everytime DU'ers sit down to "Diss a Dem", bite your tongue and think about all the crap going on right now on the other side!!!

Think about how much you're helping the cause to just continually add fuel to the fire.

When we are in control --- we will be able to TAKE ACTION.

Please - remember that - everyone here.

6. My apologies, however
I was not referring strictly to Democrats when I say we. I know there are many who would otherwise vote with the religeous right that are against torture.
