with my friends at DU.
Some Bozo anchor on the local news kept refering to the "Democrat" Party (which I see even a few DU'ers doing). To my mind, it's a sign of disrespect - I believe Limpbaugh is the originator (something about the "Democrat" Party not being democratic).
Anyway, it pissed me off so I whippped off a quick email:
Will someone please tell Bill Hormann that it's the DemocratIC Party (although I'm sure he already knows that - trying to appeal to the Fox "news" audience I guess.)
I couldn't care less about the political leanings of Mr. Hormann - but I do expect journalists to be professional enough to be able to put aside their juvenile partisanship long enough to show basic respect to all political parties regardless of their personal views.
I thought I'd just get a form letter so I was surprised I got a reply:
Dear Mr. Brooks:
Thank you for writing. Your concerns deserve a thoughtful reply.
Interestingly enough in doing some quick research, there is some debate over this issue. Some local chapters of the party actually refer to themselves as "Democrat Party" rather than "Democratic Party" but that is the exception rather than the rule. As usual, there are all kinds of political overtones to this debate and some are more legitimate than others. In the interest of accuracy and fairness, we'll be referring to the "Democratic Party" in future reports. I do appreciate you pointing this out.
Again, we're always interested in feedback and observations and it was good of you to take the time to write.
Sincerely,
Brian Trauring News Director 13abc Action News
