The deer that these brave hunters killed was a doe, not a buck. Isn't that illegal in Virginia? It is in every other state that I know of. More than likely the doe had a fawn that then starved to death.

Yeah, the guy is a racist asshole jerk. There's PROOF of that.
BUT: Hunting season is usually in the fall, and in MT at least, you need a 'doe' tag or an 'either sex' to take a doe. Those are issued when the deer population gets too high. Mostly it's buck tags that are handed out.

So, unless he was hunting out of season (poaching) or took a deer not specified by his tag, then the actual TAKING of the deer was legal. What he did with the head was absolutely disgusting, wrong, sick, and goes back to the first statement about being an asshole racist jerk.

If you have strong feelings about hunting...well, then you have strong feelings about hunting.
Please do keep in mind that to a great many people hunting isn't so much about 'sport' as it's about meat on the table.

24. I'm no fan of hunting myself

but thanks for putting me straight that the doe could have been taken legally. Somehow to me it seems unmanly to be intentionally shooting a doe, whereas a buck seems more sporting. As far as hunting being to put meat on the table, unless you live in the backwoods I doubt that is likely. No, some guys think it is a macho thing to do to buy expensive hunting equipment, drive out into the woods with their buddies, maybe drink a few beers, and get to shoot and kill something.

I live at a lake where we have wild ducks, geese and swans come around in the spring with their young. Many people feed them so that they lose their fear of humans. We watch the young waterfowl grow up during the summer months. Then come September hunting season opens, and sure enough guys come out and set up their blinds and have some "sport" shooting the nearly tame birds. I have no respect for such "mighty" hunters.

I can see how an 'honest' hunt could be considered a sport.
F'rinstance, there's a lot of people up here who still hunt with bows...and it's not a strictly Native American practice.
These are people who appreciate the challenge, and respect their quarry.
Me, I've been awfully grateful for those white packages in the freezer...nice to have meat in the winter when the budget won't allow for it otherwise. :shrug:
