I am sick of hearing "Cowards cut and run" from a man who jogs with
body guards, has bullet proof windows on his car and a whole group of paid employees who's sole job is to keep him safe.

It irritates me when anyone in this country says that because they are not the ones taking enemy fire.

I get the picture of a boxer's manager saying, "I am not a coward!" while he sends his man in to have his head smashed in again. It is so disingenuous and I would hope people start calling them on it.

1. Bush is a coward who didn't have the balls to go to Vietnam and fight
for his country. He was "protecting" Texas bars and snorting cocaine.

2. George Allen supported theVietnam war
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 04:36 PM by nam78_two
But took a "student deferment" to avoid actually going to war...

They are all the same...

17. Have you seen this?

Who served in the military?

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay - avoided the draft, did not serve. "So many minority youths had volunteered ... that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself."
House Majority Whip Roy Blunt - did not serve.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist - did not serve. (An impressive medical resume, but not such a friend to cats in Boston.)
Majority Whip Mitch McConnell, R-KY - did not serve.
Rick Santorum, R-PA, third ranking Republican in the Senate - did not serve.
George Felix Allen, Republican Senator from Virginia - a supporter of Nixon and the Vietnam war, did not serve.
Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Secretary of Defense Don Rumsfeld - served in the U.S. Navy (1954-57) as an aviator and flight instructor. Served as President Reagan's Special Envoy to the Middle East and met with Saddam Hussein twice in 1983 and 1984.
GW Bush - decided that a six-year Nat'l Guard commitment really means four years. Still says that he's "been to war." Huh?
VP Cheney - several deferments, the last by marriage (in his own words, "had other priorities than military service")
Former Att'y Gen. John Ashcroft - did not serve; received seven deferment to teach business ed at SW Missouri State
Jeb Bush, Florida Governor - did not serve.
Karl Rove - avoided the draft, did not serve, too busy being a Republican.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich - avoided the draft, did not serve.
Former President Ronald Reagan - due to poor eyesight, served in a noncombat role making movies for the Army in southern California during WWII. He later seems to have confused his role as an actor playing a tail gunner with the real thing.
"B-1" Bob Dornan - avoided Korean War combat duty by enrolling in college acting classes (Orange County Weekly article). Enlisted only after the fighting was over in Korea.
Phil Gramm - avoided the draft, did not serve, four (?) student deferments.

3. Ironic hearing a snot-nosed rich kid who couldn't handle..
...a short stay in the rich man's champagne unit talk about courage and cowards.

Some people here once criticized me for having the unmitigated audacity to admit to HATING Bush and his minions. I wonder how many still feel this way, now that America has become a banana republic?

Yes, I hate them. They all deserve our hatred and disgust.

4. Hey, nothing wrong with ducking Viet Nam. HOWEVER, to do so then do
bushyboy's macho swaggering (and let's not forget the codpiece!), that's unforgivable.

Let's not forget that Viet Nam was a dirty, stupid, pointless war. Avoiding going there was OK, at least in my book. Why die for nothing? I know FAR too many people who did that.

from Vietnam and not Iraq. Is there a certain quota of dead soldiers that have to be met first?

16. Better question: Isn't that what Reagan did in Beirut?
If a repuke warmonger were to tell me that Democrats want to cut-and-run from Iraq, then I would ask them, "You mean, like Reagan did in Beirut in January 1984?"

In the spring of 1983, President Reagan and his team of hawkish advisors decided to intervene in Lebanon's civil war on behalf of Christian President Amin Gemayel. On March 24, the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit was dispatched to Lebanon where Moslem and Christian factions were fighting.

On April 28, 1983, a suicide bomber drove a van loaded with 2,000 pounds of explosives into the U.S. embassy in Beirut. Sixty-three people died, including seventeen Americans.

Four months later (September 6, 1983), two U.S. Marines were killed by rocket and mortar fire. At an October 19 press conference, Reagan was asked about the safety of the Marines in Beirut to which he replied, "We're looking at everything that can be done to try and make their position safer. We're not sitting idly by."

A few days later (October 23), another suicide bomber drove a truck loaded with explosives into the headquarters building of the First Battalion, 8th Marines, located at the Beirut airport. The resulting explosion killed 241 American servicemen.

Three months later, the Reagan administration removed American troops from Beirut and put them aboard offshore ships. Reagan described the retreat as taking "decisive new steps." Explained spokesman Larry Speakes, "We don't consider this a withdrawal but more of a redeployment."

Looks a lot like what Murtha proposes for Iraq, doesn't it?

Getting out was the only thing we did right in Beirut. But don't let repukes give their Saint Ronnie of Reagan a pass on this when they start babbling their 'cut-and-run' slogan. What a pack of idiots. Why don't they say 'git er done' every now and then too? It would add just as much to the discourse.

21. Until The Decider is out of office, at least.
He's said exactly that already. I guess Congress could force the issue, but I don't see that happening without a veto-proof and filibuster-proof majority.

I had NO idea how to reply to that. Our neighbor just finished his second tour in Iraq and was carrying on about (so called) cowards running away. Left me silent. Not sure how to reply.

20. Give him the answer Kerry and others have given
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 10:57 PM by karynnj
That they are not cutting and running, but redeploying for success. That there is no military solution, only a political solution. Also, tell him the Senate passed a Sense of the Senate resolution, authored by Kerry, early Saturday morning (about 3AM) calling for a summit of Iraq and the neighbors.

Kerry in October 2005 spoke of the fact that it was counterproductive and let to increased anti-American hatred for Americans to be doing the search and destroy missions and policing. It was also very dangerous for the US soldiers, who often didn't know the language or the culture. The NIE just said virtually the same thing.

Kerry, Feingold, and Murtha are not cutting and running - they simply see that it is wrong to ask soldiers to sit in the middle of a civil war, where there is little they can do and they are being killed.

Pictures of Kerry and Kennedy at MA funerals show two men who genuinely care about the soldiers sent - and they are not unique among Democrats. Kerry and Murtha have also worked as much as anyone over their careers on Veterans rights and benefits.

12. Iraq is lost. You can't "cut and run" from a lost cause.
You can only extricate yourself in this case from a Civil War you ignited out of a failure to understand the country and its culture.

Bush is a figurehead bobblehead who reads the script. Cheney and Rumsfeld are the criminal minds behind this cluterfuck. I hope to God all three are eventually tried for war crimes. No "cutting and running" from that.

13. Bill Clinton could never get away with the things the Chimp is saying
it really shows the different standards the media and others have. neither Clinton or the Chimp served and both have questions regarding their lack of service and wanting to avoid it. Clinton at least was opposed to the war he did not want to serve in. the Chimp on the other hand was totally supportive of it while using connections to get out of it. and even then not fulfilling the service in the Guard he got into in order to avoid going to Vietnam.

but just think if Bill Clinton had said to Pappy Bush and Dole or anything else who had served that they were "cutting and running" and supporting the enemy and other things the vile chickenhawk Chimp and Cheney accuse people of.
