I don't think Bob Livingston ever actually took the Speakership. Gingrich had stepped down when his affair was exposed. Livingston was poised to take the chair when HIS sex life was exposed. DeLay wanted the position, but knew he couldn't get it, so he took majority leader, and pushed his deputy whip, Hastert, into the Speakership.

Livingston was running for the Speaker's job but got derailed by Larry Flynt, who'd discovered his affairs but didn't tell as much as he knew. Livingston, although he claimed not to have slept with an intern, had slept with a lobbyist and a judge from his state as well as an intern. After that, Delay picked Hastert mainly because he was more interested in food than in sex.

Also, DeLay was the House Majority Leader, followed by Boehner (who swears it's not pronounced like it's spelled! ;-) _
