Allen will continue TV ads attacking WebbClinton backs Webb; N.Y. senator seeks 'change in direction'
http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD/MGArticle/RTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149190961200One day after urging a return to issues, Republican Sen. George Allen indicated he will continue running ads attacking Democrat Jim Webb's stance on women at the military academies.
Dick Wadhams, Allen's campaign manager, confirmed after a backyard appearance by Allen near Fredericksburg that the ads will stay on the air. "That is very much a legitimate issue in this race," Wadhams said.
The Allen campaign's insistence on continuing the ads came 16 hours after the freshman senator aired a 2-minute commercial in television markets statewide Monday night, saying that "negative personal attacks and baseless allegations have also pulled us away from what you expect and deserve."
Allen's appearance yesterday at the home of House Speaker William J. Howell, R-Stafford, served as the launch of Allen's new "Issues, Ideas, Proven Record Tour," with a stop also scheduled yesterday at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Weyers Cave.
