An odd Diebold fear
It occurred to me lately that the worries about the Diebold machines... the security flaws, the connections with Republicans, have produced a healthy amount of discussion of the possibility of them stealing the vote to keep themselves in power; but it also occurred to me that that isn't the ONLY way they could use that advantage against us. If they can tip the vote any way they want, couldn't they theoretically tip the balance the OTHER way? In other words, use the machines to give Dems a completely unreasonable majority, then turn around and blame them for it? They could frame us spooky evil liberals, accuse US of being election-stealing Communists... and the scary part is, people would believe them. Maybe a LOT of people. Anyone who dosn't know about Diebold's political allegiances, anyone who already is inclined to think Dems would do such a thing... for that matter, anyone who would believe the first accusation they heard (which would be a large percentage, I imagine).

It would be a riskier strategy for the conservatives than just giving themselves votes, but the payoffs for them could be greater... framing the Dems for massive election fraud could permanently damage liberal credibility in the public mind (as if the right-wing talking heads needed help accusing us of things)! Am I wearing a tinfoil hat here, or does anyone else think this is a possibility?

(Apologies, by the way, if someone else has already brought this idea up.)

1. Joe Q. Public bought the election outcomes the last few times so maybe
they'll not care if it happens in favor or the Left?

6. The press won't buy it.
People do whatever the TV tells them to.

The only reason I doubt the OP scenario is that it costs them their best weapon.

9. The press doesn't have to buy it.. they sell that stuff. I have zero faith
in what passes for mainstream news media these days. (Except for Keith. He rules)

10. You expressed my point better than me.
The public will buy whatever the TV sells them.

3. One thing that raises my suspicions
is that republicans don't seem to be trying very hard to get elected.

Hope they're not conspiring in some nefarious election plot...
more likely it's my selective eyesight blotting republicans out.
Good god they are an eyesore... and earsore for that matter

4. You mean as in: They broke it... we bought it?
I have been noticing that there are very very many polls showing the R's trailing huge margins. In almost ever poll people are getting angry an disgusted with their shenanigans.
So... if Diebold steals it again for them, then both the recent polls and the exit polls will be at odds with them.... and b large margins.
The true diehards will vote R anyway, but I really feel a change is coming and for that I am glad.
The thing I wonder is if W** will just write a signning statement saying he doesn't agree with the election.

5. No... they are freaking out right now..
If you saw the Rethug pundit radio host try to bash Contessa Brewer on MSNBC today.. you'd see how completely freaked out they are. (there's a thread on here somewhere about it)

R-THUGS are going to be dumping MILLIONS upons MILLIONS into their last "30 day SMEAR and FEAR" campaign.. but thankfully so much money is rolling in to the Democratic Party, that we'll be able to fight back just as hard

7. No GOP politician would publicly accuse the Dem Party of pulling a
stunt like that. And don't expect the corporate media to destroy its credibilty by going the tinfoil route.

11. I think the opposite is more likely. Lots of races are very close
Repugs could still win with just a few extra votes. Get ready for lots of very messy recounts.
