Kucinich Responds to Statements by CIA Director Tenet
News Advisory – Kucinich responds to Statements by CIA Director Tenet

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 7, 2004

George Tenet’s statement contradicts the Bush administration. Bush administration officials have tried several times to lay blame for the failure to find WMDs in Iraq on the intelligence community. Various Bush administration officials have made clear allegations that Iraq was an imminent threat:

"Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction," said Dick Cheney on August 26, 2002.

George W. Bush referred to Iraq as a “grave and gathering danger” on September 12, 2002 before the United Nations;

"We know for a fact that there are weapons there," said Ari Fleischer on January 9, 2003;

"We know that Saddam Hussein is determined to keep his weapons of mass destruction, is determined to make more," said Colin Powell before the United Nations on February 5, 2003. In that same statement, Powell warned of the “sinister nexus between Iraq and al Qaeda.”;

"We have sources that tell us that Saddam Hussein recently authorized Iraqi field commanders to use chemical weapons," said George W. Bush on February 8, 2003;

“Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised," said George W. Bush on March 17, 2003.

Tenet’s statement clearly contradicts the allegations and dire predictions made by the Bush administration about the threat posed by Iraq. Further, Tenet has denied that the failure to find weapons of mass destruction is the fault of the intelligence community.

The Dennis Kucinich for President campaign has released a detailed report about the facts surround the missing weapons of mass destruction. That report can be found here:

http://kucinich.us/DennisKucinichWasRight.pdf.

Since September 2002, Dennis Kucinich has stood against the rhetoric of fear and manipulation put forth by the Bush administration of the threat posed by Iraq. He is the only candidate in the race to vote against the Iraq War Resolution. Tenet’s statements further underline the fact that Congressman Kucinich was right about Iraq in 2002, and he is right today.

2. the "liberal" media
has made him an invisible man. For much of the American public, if it isn't on tv, it isn't. censorship is not about altering what is written and shown, the power of censorship is invisibility.

It's not hard to see why he has to be invisible. He lives and works toward what most of us really want and care about.
A bright light shining on this man could help him lead us all to safety and a world of promise and hope.

11. He's on mainstream media's
"ignore" list; and therefore on too much of the publics, as well.

It's our job to get him past the media roadblocks, where people can hear him!

5. He's so tough
Physical strength is more common than moral strength. He impresses me so much when he takes such brave stands. It's almost unbelievable to see.

6. Once again, DK out in front, speaking the plain truth.
Is there anyone else who tells more of the truth, more plainly, more consistently?

Isn't that too important a quality to be overlooked, just because you've been told he's "unelectable?"

7. George Tenet’s statement
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040205/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/tenet_text_10

...One final spy story. Last year in my annual worldwide threat testimony before Congress in open session, I talked about the emerging threat from private proliferators, especially nuclear brokers. I was cryptic about this in public, but I can tell you now that I was talking about A.Q. Khan. His network was shaving years off the nuclear weapons development timelines of several states, including Libya.

Now, as you know from the news coming out of Pakistan, Khan and his network have been dealt a crushing blow and several of his senior officers are in custody. Malaysian authorities have shut down one of the network's largest plants. His network is now answering to the world for years of nuclear profiteering.

What did intelligence have to do with this? First, we discovered the extent of Khan's hidden network. We tagged the proliferators, we detected the networks stretching across four continents offering its wares to countries like North Korea and Iran.

Working with our British colleagues, we pieced together the picture of the network, revealing its subsidiaries, its scientists, its front companies, its agents, its finances and manufacturing plants on three continents. Our spies penetrated the network through a series of daring operations over several years...

I found the above portion of Tenet's statement equally (if not more) troubling.

Mr. Tenet told us that the CIA/administration watched for "several years" as Khan and his network "was shaving years off the nuclear weapons development timeliness of several states". Tenet said this administration sat by and did nothing to stop Khan and his network... going back to sometime before the runup to the Iraq war.

Only this week do we see Khan's sham of a confession and the quick pardon. Why is Pakistan our "friend"? Isn't Pakistan everything we were told to fear from Saddam, Iran, Syria, N. Korea, and every other boogeyman bush and Co. conjure up?

I like the rapid response that just seems to be coming out of the DK campaign these days.

Thanks for calling these liars on their lies!

10. Once again the reason why DK is the only choice...
Besides an alternative in Sharpton, the rest are all battling for whose rhetoric is tastiest, without having to offer anything different.
