Cry in your tea cups all you want. Just stop LYING in them.
The presumption that as frontrunner, John Kerry is being coronated has led recently to desperate attempts to derail his campaign reminiscent of the 2000 primaries where Al Gore, of course won the Democratic party nomination.

Replete with that presumption are all the ancillary tactics to resist it including acts of desperation to survive by competing camps.

Nothing wrong with that. In a contest, survival is the name of the game. But some of the tactics linger long after the contest is over.

The game played by the issues is fair game but the lies used in the interim are not.

The candidates' words being taken out of context are reminiscent of the "AL GORE DISCOVERED LOVE CANAL" statement which was a slam article floated by COUNTERPUNCH during the 00 primaries.

So....cry in your tea cups all you want...just stop lying in them. Here's the ACTUAL quote:

"Presidential candidate John Kerry attempted Monday to light a fire under a lethargic Democratic Party that he said had gotten lazy the past few years.
"Addressing party activists at a luncheon at Claflin University, the Massachusetts senator urged the party faithful to go out and fight for their beliefs.

"'The way to do it is to get mad, to get angry, to get active, to get out there and get off your ...,' he said to prolonged cheers, without completing the thought. 'Get going.'

"Kerry's sermonette was prompted by a questioner dismayed by the outcome of the 2000 presidential election won by George W. Bush and the drubbing Democrats took in the 2002 election.
"Bush lost the popular vote to Democrat Al Gore, but captured the electoral vote after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the GOP's favor by denying a vote recount in Florida.

"'Just because the Supreme Court made the wrong decision in 2000 doesn't mean we have to live with it for the next six years,' Kerry said."

1. I Agree
The Republicans aregoing to dig up all the dirt on Kerry they can, and they are going to paint us as hypocrites for nominating him--I don't think we need to be lending them a hand.

6. "can't keep crying in your teacups" was said but, the context used
was not to show contempt for those upset with the results of 2000. That's just an internet message board legend that is being spread.

8. We were all here when it happened!
Why lie about this?

Kerry said, "Get over it!" about the 200 elections and we all ripped him a new asshole for it.

Don't tell us "it's just a legend" because it's not.

11. He DID say it. The context is what was distorted by boards like this.
He was applauded by the Dem activists he was speaking to.

When you put his statement in context, it is obviously NOT contempt for activists as many here, like you, have insisted.

18. How can you put the Repuke mantra "Get over it" into a positive context?
Look, Kerry probably just misspoke. I'm not out to crucify him for making one idiotic and highly insulting statement.

But the fact of the matter is he said it and the initial post tries to pretend he didn't. Furthermore, the initial post calls people who tell the truth liars. Why is that OK?

20. No. The liars are the ones who claim the context was contempt for Dem
activists. Big difference.

17. Get Over It! That phrase picks off scabs and rips stitches off gaping
wounds. That there was no "sensitivity" there says someone doesn't "get it" or doesn't need those who "DO" get it. IMHO....

The accurate quote is:

“Stop crying in your teacups. It isn’t going to change. Get over it.” John Kerry

16. I don't understand, read the entire quote in context?
Did he or did he not actually make the teacup comment? I'm getting conflicting opinions here. It's as if people are saying he didn't say it but said something else entirely, but that doesn't really get to the bottom of whether or not he said it.

19. Let me explain. If you say Kerry said something stupid and insulting
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 11:35 PM by stickdog
that he clearly and definitely did say, then you are a liar.

Furthermore, if someone else says that you are a liar for simply quoting Kerry accurately, then that's called "putting things in context."

21. When others took Dean quotes out of context,
Dean supporters here were pretty angry. Is an attempt to slime back? What do you hope to accomplish?

13. I defended Kerry in real time on this
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 06:29 PM by dsc
( I would prove it but it was on DU1) but I refuse to do it anymore. I have been told by several Kerry supporters that a) I never did it and b) that even if I did they have no need to do so for Dean. So I am done doing it.

22. NSMA is voting for DK in her state primary
So it is rather knee-jerk to label her so flippantly.

NSMA is just being fair and realistic, two endangered species in this forum.
