Official results: WASHINGTON
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 04:47 PM by EarlG
In order to help everyone keep track of the returns from today's elections, please post all updates in the OFFICIAL THREADS posted for this purpose. There will be one thread for each state. Please do not start a bunch of other results threads, as they will just make people confused.

INSTRUCTIONS

Please put the most important information from each update in the SUBJECT LINE of your post, so the returns are easy to follow. Include the two-letter state abbreviation, then the number of precincts reporting, followed by the first three or four candidates in order. Kinda like this:

WA - 00% reporting - Candidate A 00%, Candidate B 00%, Candidate C 00%, Candidate D 00%

This thread is for results ONLY. Please avoid unnecessary discussion in this thread.

I get the percentage values for my data by dividing the number of precincts by the number of total precincts - there aren't any secret numbers I'm looking at. :)

can you give more details on it. such as how long it lasts ? i live in california and the caucus system is interesting to me. i would like to participate in it, but i think the state is too big for that. especially if you want the type where you can change your vote in the second round of voting and try to convince others to change as iowa did.

Woohoo! another win for Kerry...

I have to say I am surprised by the turnouts for Dean (who didn't even bother) and Kucinich, but it's good that one state is liberal enough to recognize the views of these people. If Edwards and Clark lose WA and MI tonight by these margins it can't make them look good regardless of their wins in their states last Tues.

I don't understand, after hearing scores of calls into the radio, and witnessing my own caucus, how Kerry came out so far ahead. The majority of metro caucuses were Dean first.

Congrats to Kerry. I really wish CNN would have waited for the precints to all be counted.

56. You'd think *not* given that only 30% of the delegates...
...are showing. That other 70% of delegates has to be somewhere, and if half the precincts have been counted, obviously it's a high population area.

So I say nope, Seattle hasn't been counted. Not to say that CNN is wrong here, but I do think they're not making a wise choice calling it with only 30% reporting unless they have some major exit polling or something going on.

So I think that what we're waiting for here is to see if that rumor (2-1 for Dean) is true. If it is, then CNN and the AP and FOX for that matter are going to look very very stupid.

65. With 76% of precincts reporting, 50% of delegates still remain.
15200 more delegates floating around there. We still have not hit the higher population areas.

67. I'm sorry, but
I fail to see how getting 7% (current number as this is written) can be great news for any candidate. Yes, if he is up from 1% or less in the previous primaries it is a slight improvement, but means nothing in the long run. It's a very tiny number of votes in a liberal state tailor- made for the candidate's views. We need a little realism at this point.

76. I'm glad becasue I really like Kucinich
and coming in 3rd isn't to bad. I'm not saying he might win the nomination, but I'm happy to see his numbers moving up.

69. Note: these are not all delegates.
CNN lists Washington as having 76 pledge delegates. So this is perhaps for some CD or such

72. They ARE all delegates-
at the State level. National delegates are selected at the State convention later on. May 1st I believe.

80. But it can all change.
Our PCO explained that the elected delegates (like me) can change their votes at the County and State caucuses, if they have to.

The results could dramatically change, especially since a candidate has to have at least 15% of the votes to earn a delegate in the next higher caucus.

However, the state delegates may not be 16/11 yet.

AFSCME Union Tells Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean It Will Withdraw Support for Presidential Bid

The Associated Press

Feb. 7 — The head of a major union that gave an early boost to Howard Dean's presidential campaign told the former Vermont governor on Saturday that he would withdraw his union's support, dealing a major blow to the Democrat's faltering campaign, The Associated Press has learned.
Gerald McEntee, head of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, delivered the news to Dean in a meeting with two other unions whose support has been propping up the former governor's campaign, said two Democratic officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.

74. Yes.
The media didn't say one word until after the polls closed. I hate the media as much as the next one, but with this they waited.

Of course, the votes aren't counted yet, so they are calling it 'early' in my book.

84. FYI, by delegates, I meant state delegates, not national ones.
In states with caucuses, you have delegates which go towards deciding which candidates get a national delegate.

Looks like the projections were right, though I think it may close a bit between Dean/Kerry before it's over.

to the national, if I'm understanding it correctly.

Then again, depending on who is still in the race come time for the state conventions, who knows?

Go Dennis! :D :D :D
