2. Thank you for this thread!
I really hope Dean does well in the caucuses. He is the one who has moved ahead the whole discussion of the Shrub administration, and should be commended for this. I hope there are many voters who realize that this man has the experience and pragmatism it will take to get our country out of the mess it is in.

I picked a bad time to try to quit smolking.

edit: OK, that's supposed to be "smoking". Although, being a Braves fans, I wonder if, when John Smoltz is in the zone, it could be considered "smolking".

Good luck! No tellin' how Michigan's going to go - lotta early voting got done, before the Kerry bandwagon started rolling - so good luck there too. I guess they won't be releasing the results till 8 PM, and I don't know if that's AFTER the decision to keep the Detroit polls open two extra hours... anyway, pins and needles here for Dean and my guy too.

35. Prediction: Dean will win Washington. The percentages being reported
now are number of precincts, not of number of voters. Expected about 100,000 voter turnout, only about 4,000 total votes reported. So these 32% of precincts must be small rural ones. Various anectdotal reports throughout the day have shown Seattle is going big-time for Dean, almost 2-1 over Kerry. This is going to end up very close--and Dean did not run a single ad! The only media advertising for Dean was provided by truthandhope.org, which a couple of days ago hastily raised cash on the Dean blog, produced some good radio ads, and got them on the air. Those that thought the people-powered Howard Dean campaign would just roll over are in for a big surprise.

44. These numbers are indicitive of smaller precincts.
Given that the smaller ones get done first, and that the larger ones get done last, and that as the larger ones are finishing Dean's points are jumping 1 or 2, I think that this is the trend.

I agree with milkyway here.

CNN is listing vote totals at 76% reporting, yet the total of votes add up to about 11,000. I thought I read earlier today that turnout in WA could be as high as 100,000.

How can anybody be calling the race if something like less than 25% of the vote has been counted?

What am I missing?

67. Caucus Chaos
Dean supporters were the only ones putting up signs and wearing teeshirts at the extremely crowded and chaotic Kittitas County Caucus (one county over from Yakima). There was no way to try to persuade the undecided (much too crowded) whom, in my precinct, even ended with a delegate. My precinct: 4 Kerry, 2 Dean, 1 Undecided. This seems to pretty much reflect the rest of the small eastern caucuses. We are proud of our results, but expected better from the west side of the Cascades.

NO DEFICITS WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

86. With 80% precincts reporting, 40% of delegates go uncounted.
Which obviously means that some high population areas are not accounted for here. Outside of Seattle/Tacoma, I cannot think of which areas would have such population densities.

Note that Edwards may or may not get delegate depending on how the CD boundaries and the final districts go, which may affect just how many delegates everyone gets. No delegate projection by AP yet.

(And WTH is going on w/the counting in WA?)

92. That's right, momentum change takes a few weeks.
Kerry has peaked and maybe buyer's remorse will start to set in as folks get a closer look at what they are buying. Hopefully, by Wisconsin, we can gain the momentum back.

93. Some observations
My first caucus ever in Washington. Pierce County. It was so crowded. The democratic chairman (paul berndt) said on KOMO radio that it might be as high at 200,000 which would be 5x the normal turnout!! My precinct had 6 Dean and 1 Kerry. The Kerry person was a Dean at heart but had been convinced by our media that Kerry couldn't win. Also had a republican for Dean who had voted republican since Eisenhower. Interesting process. My husband attended a different precinct and found much the same. Kerry supporters had been Dean but had been convinced Dean was unelectable. EVERYONE was very negative about bush. All 7 in mine were lst time caucus goers. The Dean people were totally behind his positions while the Kerry folks didn't agree on his war vote or his support of the patriot act or NAFTA but believed he could beat bush and that the the main reason they supported him. IF Dean could turn that one thing around, he could still win this. Electability....

97. Not too shabby. Two second place finishes
Dean picked up some delegates and I think will close it a bit in Washington. I'm surprised by his strong (if you could call it that) showing in Michigan. I'm pleased. This has been my most exciting night of primaries so far. I actually am not sick to my stomach like I've been all the other nights. Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come. Props to all Dean supporters. Keep the faith alive.

102. Overall, with Super-Delegates, Dean in Solid Second
Kerry at 411, with Dean at 175, Edwards at 116, Clark at 82 and Sharpton at 12. It takes 2,162 to win the nomination.

Yes, clearly the media has constantly been bashing Dean, and now lifting Kerry up. Kerry won't likely hold us as his special interest like Dean will. Interesting, the delegates being as they are, that they were talking about Dean withdrawing on CNN, instead of one of the others with less. More bias, all the time, on the corporate-mouthpiece media-outlets.

Keep going to Dean's site, writing the letters to Wisconsin, and doing what you can. Mention the media's unfairness, the fact that no one can know who is electable, and that we feel Dean is far better than Kerry, who has a tremendous record to take apart in the Senate, as well as a contradictory Vietnam experience, where he wants to be a hero, and a protester of the war at the same time.

I was reading McGovern article in the paper today, and he talked about how he'd been a pilot in the war, but Nixon, who'd done nothing was portrayed in a better light than he, who'd served his country. Clearly, the only chance we have against Bush is Dean, who has all of us committed Deaniacs to organize around him.

One final comment, you can see Kerry doesn't provoke much enthusiasm, just by the number of posts in his thread. it's because most of those people aren't proud of themselves, and they don't get the good feeling that we do, by voting our convictions, our ideology. They come home, voting against what they believe in, and don't much care to talk about it, pour themselves a stiff drink, and sit back trying to wash the nasty taste out of their collective, brainwashed mouths, sipping cheap bourbon whiskey. Okay, a little dramatic, but you get my point.

Vote for who you want to, not who the media tells you to. I rather think Dean did well, and I'm feeling a change in momentum. Be part of the wave, don't quit, go right now and whip out your ten letters. I'm doing thirty every three days, my mom's computer, a friend from Ohio who doesn't have time, and my own. Postage is killing me, but it's worth it.
