How important are primaries anyways?

1. Pretty damned important

In a nutshell, the primary goes through the process of weeding through the candidates until a final one is selected to be the Party's nominee for the general election.

Primaries usually have a much lower turnout than the general election, but this primary season is bringing record numbers to the primaries and caucuses.
