Bartlett: White House Flexible on Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) - The fledgling Iraqi government must "step up and take
more responsibility" for the country's security, a high-ranking White House
official said Monday.

At the same time, Dan Bartlett denied in a television interview that the Bush
administration's war policy has been a sweeping "stay the course" commitment,
saying "what we aren't doing is sitting there with our heads in the sand."

In contrast to earlier White House statements, Bartlett did not deny a New York
Times report saying the head of the U.S.-led Multinational Forces in Iraq and
the U.S. ambassador were working on a plan that for the first time would set a
specific timetable for disarming militias and meeting other political and
economic goals.

The White House earlier had said the report in Sunday's editions of the Times
was not accurate. Bartlett said he thought it "might have been overwritten."

1. Pathological Liars Anonymous
remember this...

Hello, my name is Tommy Flanagan, and I'm a member of Pathological Liars Anonymous. In fact.. I'm the president of the organization!

I didn't always lie. No, when I was a kid, I told the truth. But then one day, I got caught stealing money out of my mother's purse. I lied. I told her it was homework - that my teacher told me to do it. And she got fired! Yeah, that's what happened!

After that, lying was easy for me. I lied about my age and joined the army. I was thirteen at the time. Yeah.. I went to Vietnam, and I was injured catching a mortar shell in my teeth. And they made me a three-star general! And then I got a job in journalism, writing for the National Enquire.. er, Geographic! Yeah.. I was making twenty thousand a ye.. month! In fact, I won the Pulitzer Prize that year! Yeah, that's the ticket.

And then my cousin died - Joe Louis - and I took it hard. Maybe too hard - I tried to kill myself. Yeahh.. I did kill myself! Sure! I was medically dead for a week and a half! It was a woman that brought me out of it - Indira Gandhi! Yeah, right.. And she told me about Pathological Liars Anonymous.

Oh, you'd be surprised how many famous people belong. In fact.. at one of the meetings I met my wife - Morgan Fairchild! Yes, I'm a change man now, and all because of Pathological Liars Anonymous. Why, I - I even have my picture on the cover of Newsweek magazine. Yeah. Every day! Yeah.. that's the ticket! Yeah, you betcha!

3. They deny they are finally doing something right
by actually discussing a plan (although the only reason they are doing it is political.)

bush and bartlett and rove and rumsfeld have no goal, no objective, no strategy, no plan just STAY THE COURSE which is getting our kids killed every day.

The federal government does not work, put republicans in charge and they will prove it.

My hate is rational.

8. Somebody should bash their heads with something that flexible.
Such incredible, balls-out, flagrant lying.

There is no lack of chutzpah in these criminals.

7. The new product rollout sort of flopped, didn't it?
No need to come up with something else, just deny that you ever said what you said, then adopt your opponent's plan, tweak one or two points, then claim that your opponent doesn't have a plan. Of course, this odious demagoguery would never get off the ground except for the active connivance of the popular media, which has been spun so hard they don't remember from one day to the next who said what, and are eager to repeat whatever the GOP tells them.
