1. US House seat and a State House seat
Edited on Tue Oct-24-06 12:47 PM by Patiod
Canvassing for Lois Murphy and Mike Gerber (a PA race)

Crushed that I can't work the polls -- had a very narrow window where I could take my vacation between jobs, and my employer has the typical "use it or lose it" policy.

I get so energized working the polls (although I normally get sick afterwords)!

It's going well - in addition to lots of people upset about Iraq and looking for change, I knocked on the door of someone who I found out knows my S.O. and wanted to know if he wanted a job, so there's that!

Only one asshole (in a leather jacket, with hideous shades, on a cell phone), asking why Mike wasn't out walking with me. He got back on the phone and ignored me when I asked why his candidate wasn't in that neighborhood today, either.

2. volunteer
at the local dem office. Making phone calls, hanging door hangers, just hanging around the office we get a lot of walk ins for signs and some that just want to vent.

Kewl deal here we are not going to close down our local office after the campaign like we normally would it will stay open all the time now.

It is going pretty good I have had a lot of repubs who are going to be voting at least partly dem this year. Most Dems I talk to want a sheet to take in to the booth with them so they can vote dem strait down. They are miffed and have had enough. Now I do have to tell you I am in a very Democratic area of ohio..so my view may be a bit skewed.

3. living in a Blue area is great
the only down side is i won't get the satisfaction of helping a close race at a higher level.

(of course, ballot propositions and local campaigns offer plenty of excitement and satisfaction.)

5. Call for Change phone volunteer.
Last night was my first night, I got about 3 calls thru who were voting for Dems, one who told me "Don't say anymore" then hung up on me after I mentioned the Dem candidate's name. The remainder of the 20+ people were not home. I'm going to do it at a later time tonight since I think I hit people right as they were getting home or before they got home at all.

6. Been walking precincts and much more
We targeted 6 precincts with high democrat % but low voter turnout. We started last weekend of September and have been walking one precinct per weekend. Giving list of all statewide Democratic candidates, and encouraging voting by mail. I say we've probably walked 2000 homes in the county. Earlier I conducted 2 Precinct Organizing workshops to try to encourage people to get active in their community and with our local party. Lots of other stuff too. I'm kind of tired and ready for the elections to be over so then we can analyze whether what we have done has been effective.

7. In addition to being a poll worker...
...I also canvass my neighborhood touting our candidates.

And I also spend four hours on the phone polling for my county committee.
