GOP Losing It's Edge in Fairfax (VA)
We need to start kicking the shit out of those yahoos in the southwest part of the state who keep electing idiot nutjobs who do nothing for the state, but concentrate all their time on making abortion illegal and legalizing anything having to do with guns....

An unexpected political drama has played out for the last 22 months at the community hall in Clifton, a town of million-dollar houses on five acres in western Fairfax County that twice backed President Bush: The Democratic Women of Clifton was born.

Democrats in this fortress of Republican strength had for years seemed endangered or in hiding. In 2004 though, Jane and George Barker noticed a profusion of signs for Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry on their neighbors' lawns. "We started hearing from people that they were voting Democratic," said Barker, a stay-at-home mom married to a health-care planner.

At the group's inaugural tea in February 2005, she and fellow organizer Jane Blechman expected 15 women to show. They got 100. Today, there are 300 members.

11. I Work In SW Virginia....
I have the day off on Tuesday and I am driving seven of my coworkers to the polls for the express purpose of voting for Webb.

4. One only needs to look for two counties on election night in Virginia
Fairfax and Chesterfield. If Allen is only tracking at about 55% in Chesterfield and Webb is getting 59-60% in Fairfax, it's over.

5. I think Webb is about 61-62 in Fairfax right now...
what is it in Chesterfield, any idea?

Tim Kaine surprised the pollsters in the Governors race in places like Loudoun and Prince William, I suspect Webb will do better than expected in those counties this time as well, lots of military and ex-military families live there.

6. Chesterfield is hardcore right-wing, but with where Webb is pulling with
the white vote(about 40-42%), I would expect he is keeping Allen to about 56% there.

7. I suspect that the Fairfaxers, like other erstwhile right-leaning Americans
in affluent districts, are realizing how much the GOP cares not a bit for them, and instead supports the most ruinous business interests-- large-scale outsourcing of US tech jobs, for example, and idiotic bankruptcy "reforms" that target individuals without much of a safety net-- that work directly against the interests of hard-working Americans and small-business owners. Tech hubs like Fairfax in particular have been hit hard by the Republicans' malfeasance. They'll be making sure that George Allen among others pays the price for it in a few days.

8. Another kick from a former Fairfaxer! My old neighborhood was quite red
for awhile - lots of CIA,IRS,State workers etc - but was turning blue when I moved 3 yrs ago to the mountains just west of there.

9. Democratic Women of Clifton do a GREAT job...
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 09:17 PM by SaveElmer
I know several members, and worked their booth at Clifton Day...

I know the Republicans are trying to emulate the group themselves, but I doubt they will have the kind of success the Democrats have had!!!
