Story of the Red Herring (please read for the sake of your sanity)!
The red herring is a smelly little fish. It has been used by fox hunters for centuries to distract the hounds from the real prey. It diverts attention and energy and gets people off on side trails. Then they get lost. And the red herring goes away until the next time.

I do not post often here, but I observe. There are many people here who strongly believe in their candidates and in their candidate's beliefs. They also still passionately believe in this Country and its potential to recover it's position as a decent place. Some of the posters here can get a little heated (I'm being kind) and a little out of hand. I am not talking here about these folks (some of which are very close to my heart). I am talking about the Red Herrings. They kind of come out of the woodwork...lay the bait...play the fish and then disappear. Then the post again...same thing. Again and again. I'm for calling these people what they are...Red Herrings. Let's call them out and then go on with the constructive debates.

1. Dean can't win, Clark's a war criminal, Kerry is BFEE...
What you have a problem with this?

:)

I agree. The Clark met with war criminal is a stitch. I've been lurking for about a year now, but even I remember that getting debunked a while ago. The 'war criminal' in question wasn't a war criminal yet, at least not an accused one. Pretty gross and transparent ruse there.

5. I don't understand...
Raven, there's something about what you posted that makes no sense. You said:

"The red herring is a smelly little fish. It has been used by fox hunters for centuries to distract the hounds from the real prey. It diverts attention and energy and gets people off on side trails. Then they get lost. And the red herring goes away until the next time."

What I don't understand is, why should hunters want to distract the hounds from the prey? I would think the hunters would want exactly the opposite, for the hounds to track and find the real prey. Isn't that the point of what they are doing? For the hounds to find the fox? I don't approve of fox hunting, but looking at it from their point of view, I would think using the red herring in that way would be counterproductive to their purpose. Please explain.

Ron

7. Thanks Raven. There is a rash of people dropping a stink bomb
About a candidate, with nothing to support it, then disappearing from the thread.
And the same people do it over and over and over...

I'm surprised how often they're allowed to do it on DU,
which I thought had some rules.

It's Lord of the Flies all over again.
