1. Hacking Democracy was one scary documentary
It seems like it is way too easy to tweak the numbers.

5. No matter HOW, it needs to be done!
I was really skeptical when a few days ago, some reporter asked Bush if he was concerned about the Reps maintaining control, and he answered "Don't worry", or something like that. I thought Oh great! Another stolen election, but I was awake at 2AM eastern time, listening to the returns with complete joy!!

6. What DID go wrong for the "fix?"
I have believed that Ohio was stolen in 2004. They should have gotten better at it. Did they still skim votes? Did they try but fail to alter totals? Did they lay off this year because there was more public concern and scrutiny? Did they let this one slide so they can more credibly get away with stealing 2008?
Or was 2004 legit? No: good results in 2006 does not make the impossible results of 2004 make any more sense, nor does it explain the Warren County terror threat, the "glitches" that all favored *, etc.

Yes, we must keep up the fight for auditable paper ballots. The Vapor Trail is not good enough. "Proprietary" secret software and wireless access rule out certification, and security breaches require thorough investigation. Serious protection (Federal reward?) for election fraud whistleblowers (remember Sherole Eaton!) Jail for those who try to intimidate or mislead voters. Use new technology (forgery-proof ballots, webcasting, whatever) to monitor old-tech paper ballots. Simple (uniform?) ballot format in large print. Rethink our priorities: why does democracy require instant results? Let it take a few days to count; let it be a civic event, totals counted in each community (observed by folks from outside the community) and announced before central tabulation and certification. And no fucking Katherine HArris/Ken Blackwell conflicts of interest. Clear up the problems with DeLay-style gerrymandering and representational government has a chance.
