Virginia uses several different types of electronic voting systems. Find out what type your county uses before heading to the polls Nov. 7.
Arlington -- Arlington County uses the WINvote machine, manufactured by Advanced Voting Solutions. The system is designed to store ballots in three different parts of the machine, as well as store ballot images that can be accessed if a recount is ordered. How to use WINvote.
Alexandria -- The City of Alexandria uses the eSlate machine developed by Hart InterCivic. The machine offers a paper trail that voting officials can refer to in the event a recount is ordered. It also stores voter information, including ballot images, in several areas on the machine. A results cartridge holds the record of votes, while the machine also takes pictures of every ballot cast. These "ballot images" are stored in the machine in case a recount is ordered.
