It is time for a Black (D) on the Presidential Ballot
Either as President or VP. There are some really talented Black leaders out there right now. It is time.

1. I'm beginning to think that Barack Obama could be very
strong if he is either our P or VP nominee in '08--As it is the most recent polls say he is running a strong second to Hillary and on the stump he is a real "rock star" second only to Bill Clinton.

8. I'm not so sure about that.
Obama hasn't actually done anything. He's more notable for being on magazine covers than for things done as a Senator.

2. Yes to OBAMA...not *because* he happens to be black but because he's the right man
at the right time!

4. How about a woman on the ticket (and no, not necessarily Hillary)

Or a Hispanic - Bill Richardson would be awesome!

6. Whoever's the best candidate, color notwithstanding, is who I want in the WH
That person could be black, or Asian, or white.

9. After a racist campaign handily killed Ford in TN?
You still think this is the right time?

I don't think we're anywhere close, quite frankly. We're a lot more racist than you think. And I'm usually the guy who says the opposite (not that I'm backtracking from those statements, but realistically, we're smack in between "slavery redux" and "everything's equal").

10. That a black democratic candidate received over 48% of the vote in the deep red southern state of TN
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 05:01 PM by jefferson_dem
is evidence that the country *is* in fact ready. Not that it will come easy...

Things are teetering at the breaking point right now. Let's give one huge push so that "everything's equal" can become the hard and true reality!

11. Not if the Dem's want to win...
Edited on Mon Nov-20-06 05:07 PM by Sturmrabe
Call it racist, call it sexist, call it REALITY, but Hillary and Barack need to stay off the ticket if the Dem's want a chance to win...

It might be CLOSER now than it ever would have been, but... no, sorry, reality check.

12. Ford polled better than any Democrat in the south should
Even though he lost, he did well. I think the time has come for a black person on the presidential ballot, it's past due.

15. I'm afraid that the Corporate media who has built up Obama.....
and continues as we speak will also have the power to bring him down. Obama was not being discussed in this frantic way after his best speech, i.e., the National Democratic Convention almost 2 years ago.....up until he launched his book tour about 2 months ago.

So to me, there is a great big downside of supporting a media creation who lacks a strong foundation of people support. They made him, and therefore, they can unmake him which is what they will do if they so choose.

16. He should run
HE is one of the few Democrats that the MSM loves so we won't have to worry about that. And it doesn't matter if he is black. Our party has never served racist people and never will. THe people that won't vote for him because he is black won't vote for a democrat anyway.

17. Like Nixon being the only one who could go to China
Maybe the Republicans need to put up a minority candidate first. Then we can be sure that the country will actually vote for one.

That, or maybe just a minority VP candidate, who could run for the top office after 8 years in office.

If you go by the numbers, a woman should be put up first (~50% of the population). Then a hispanic? I am thinking there are more hispanics now, than blacks, in America.
