This is a rant that has been building inside me for about a week now. The source of my frustration is my own fault—a result of the fact that maybe I put too much thought into decisions rather than just going with what my heart tells me to do. As you all know, I agonized over who I would ultimately support in this primary process—largely because I despise the Chimp in Chief more than I have any other president in American history.
For those that remember, I pretty much supported Kerry until the IWR went down. Then, I waffled between Dean and Kerry, finally settling for Dean late last year. When Clark got in the race, I became almost nauseous due to my inability to settle in on one candidate.
Not long after News Years day, I settled in on Clark for good... end of story, no more agonizing. Now that the numbers seem to indicate the Kerry is going to win the big enchilada, I am left with this sick, empty feeling in my stomach.
Now for you Kerry fans: I hope you don't think that I will not support him if he goes up against Bush in November. I don’t dislike the guy, especially because he is a musician and outdoorsman. His service in that horrible war is most honorable as well. However, I would hope that some day down the road I get to meet him, and he looks me straight in my tired Dog eyes and apologizes to me for helping to send young kids to war without a truly valid threat of WMD’s. Better yet, I think he should face the moms and dads of those who died in Iraq and repent. Is that so much to ask of the man that my party will entrust to make such life or death decisions? It probably is too much to ask, but it does not change the way I feel.
As much as I hate the mainstream media, I can no longer ignore their power. I can no longer ignore the fact that it pretty much controls what is going on in the Democratic primaries. They built Dean up, and then they pulled the rug out from under him. They gave Clark some coverage back in September, only to bash or ignore him when he started to speak the truth about what was going on. This same media will get after Kerry if he goes up against their little golden boy that squats in the WH. The difference will be that Kerry bashing will be ten times worse than Dean or Clark bashing combined.
Let us get real: As long as the White House Rover is calling the shots, the road for any Democrat will be hard and long. Thinking Kerry is more “electable” is just plain foolish, because the nature of the Orwellian beast has altered what once was the great American system of democracy.
Sorry for this rant kids, but I am angry, frustrated and I have never, ever felt so powerless. My sense of humor, which has carried me through a trying last couple of years, has flown the coop. After the excitement of working at the caucus on Saturday, I guess I am just feeling a bit disheartened now that the reality seems to be settling in.
Arggghhhhh!
