Here is some food for thought about this primary season
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 08:47 PM by Democrats unite
If I hear the term wedge issue one more time about the rights of gays to marry, I am going to scream! I am a living, breathing person, I am not a wedge issue, I am human, I pay taxes my lover is a vet, (desert Storm), we are law abiding citizens.

I am not above you, nor am I beneath you, I am your equal. SO the next time you try to say this is a wedge issue, think of me & think of all the other Gay's & lesbian's you have contact here with.

P.S. And if you think they are going to let us have civil unions over Marriage, your only kidding yourself, they want us to have nothing.

1. You turn yourself into a wedge issue when you decide this one issue
is worth more than all of them combined.

I am a gay woman. I am 45 years old. I was gay when cops could walk into bars and arrest gay people dancing for lewd and lascivious conduct.

I was gay when gay men with AIDS could be fired from their jobs for simply being HIV positive and worked on one of the first legal USSC challenges in the nation, Chalk V. Irvine Unified SD.

When ONE issue is your litmus test for a candidate...you MAKE yourself a scapegoat AND a wedge issue.

4. Who is talking about a limitus test for a candidate?
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 09:13 PM by Democrats unite
I am talking about Heterosexuals trying to make this a wedge issue or calling it it a wedge issue.

I said I am tired of being called a wedge issue. Where you came up with your statement I'll never know (well Yes I do).

5. No you aren't. You are busy on the Kerry thread MAKING it a wedge
issue by definition..that is..an issue that divides voters for someone's advantage and someone else's disadvantage.

6. Lets keep that in that thread please.

Thats why this is posted here. I am not talking about Kerry I am talking about calling me a wedge issue during the primary. Iam not a wedge issue. Is that so hard to understand?

On edit: Forgive me for standing up for my rights in that other thread, Some people like to be used as old throw rugs, but not me.

7. No this IS about that thread
Stand up for your rights all you want. You are free to post as you wish.

Again..what DEFINES a wedge issue is an issue GUARANTEED to divide.

I simply was pointing out that using it in a hotly, closely divided electorate will more likely than not result in a dismal end.

9. I read your original post
It is hyperbolic at best. Most Democrats have supported gay rights over the years. The HATE CRIMES law which was undermined by the NRA which gave Howard Dean a 100% rating was sponsored by them.

10. I will try to put it in terms you can understand.
Edited on Mon Feb-09-04 09:34 PM by Democrats unite
People are refering to me in the 3rd person here. I don't like that I am right here I am not a wedge issue. some people here are refering to the wedge issue me like I don't exist here, I am here I am not a wedge issue call me what I am. Now do you understand?

On edit: contray to you, it is nothing what you have posted about here. If you dan't want to discuss the topic at hand stay out of the discussion, it's really that simple.

2. Without equal rights and justice for all
it is not a democracy.

The Democratic policy can only be for equal rights, unequivocably.

That does not make us unelectable, quite the contrary.
