My Republican friend in VA voted for Dean this morning!

:-) She has become completely disgusted with Bush (for more than 2 years now) and called me last week to ask me for whom I would like a vote. I support Dean, but was fair and told her my nicest thoughts about the candidates. I did request a Dean vote because I wasn't sure that here in NY I would get a chance for one myself (although it looks like I'll have that chance). So she voted for Dean this morning and I am really pleased. She said she is ABB (minus Sharpton or Larouche).

1. Bush is toast

I've seen more and more Republicans who feel that they want their party back from the neocons and will vote ABB.

We will win this thing if we put up someone strong and respectable. We also need to work hard.

16. Let's not get too excited

I too have been hearing a lot about Repubs rebelling against the Bushista regime. I fear that once Rove and his boys get the media machine moving full force most of those Repubs will head back to the flock.

5. As a nation we tend to shy away from extremists

and I think a lot of people who voted for him now see his true colors. Extremists on the left or the right aren't the nice safe choice for most people in this country.

Clinton was painted as a liberal but people saw through that. Hell liberals hated him as much as the far right did, just not as loudly, he won in the middle (too middle for many's tastes).

6. A lot of people feel sold out

Speaking to your point, Bush was painted as a uniter and someone more "mainstream" (which is an astoundingly sickening concept to begin with). When people started to realize he is not, they started feeling betrayed.

7. People REALLY don't like being lied to either

That was the Clinton baggage that Gore had to deal with and many on the right are now seeing they were lied to across the board.

There is no fiscal conservatism with this crowd and you can change your justification for starting a war all you want but people see that they were lied to from the getgo. I have noticed the RW media (I listen to Hannity on the way home sometimes) are trying to convince their base that W is unbeatable so as to dissuade them from checking anyone else out and to stay in line. They also are not telling the faithful about polls and the actual position W is in, never show weakness never allow doubt to creep in.

It's a lot easier to talk politics with her now that she sees what's been going on. She's an old-style Republican and is ashamed of the leadership of her party right now.

I love stories about people who used to support bush, now don't.

If one person's mind is changed, everyone around them will be affected. At the dinner table, their spouse and kids (if applicable) will be affected and might vote democrat because a loved one did.
