Crap. Is this a trial balloon for Jeb for V.P?
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/02/us/politics/02jeb.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Despite the wishful prodding of admirers, Mr. Bush has adamantly ruled out a presidential campaign of his own next year, saying that he wants only to return to Miami with his wife, Columba, and their cat, Sugar. Yet rumors about his future have burst forth as regularly as exotic species in the Everglades — among them that he would be the next commissioner of the National Football League, run for Senate or become Senator John McCain’s running mate if Mr. McCain won the Republican nomination for president in 2008.

“The presidency is out of the question at this point because of Bush fatigue,” said Peter Schweizer, a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford who wrote “The Bushes: A Dynasty” with his wife, Rochelle. “But the vice presidential slot is something that’s very much in play. He’s a successful governor of an important state, he helps shore up relations with the social conservatives and he has the Bush money machine.”

One of Mr. Bush’s former chiefs of staff has gone to work for Mr. McCain’s exploratory committee, but several other former aides have signed up with Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, another probable Republican contender.

“Jeb is a policy-driven guy,” Mr. Schweizer said. “If he can be a vice president that plays some kind of a policy role as Cheney has, as Gore did in the Clinton administration, then Jeb Bush will be interested.”

2. Just what this country needs...another Bush.
"He’s a successful governor of an important state"...I guess that depends on how you define the word successful.

21. I fully exect a Jeb nomination
The 2008 GOP convention will have no clear favorite. Mc Cain, Giuliani, Huckabee, Gingrich and Brownback will all come to the convention and NONE of them will have a majority. so much bad blood will be between them that Jeb will be drafted as a compromise candidate.

11. I would welcome Bush onto the ticket
It would damn near guarantee that Republicans wouldn't win the executive.

17. Yeah--they might as well just tie a ship's anchor to McCain
and watch him sink!

Ah, the Bush family. They're always bringing such good things to their friends! I mean, look what they did for their friends Saddam Hussein, and Noriega!

4. If We The People aren't able to show
how utterly & COMPLETELY criminal and corrupt the bush regime is once hearings begin, then let him run, we deserve him. Nothing in my lifetime or in any reading of the history of this country has ever been any more obvious.

If the new congress only has cursory or "window dressing" hearings then we replace them all and try again in 24 months. And yes I know I'm preaching to the choir..but really..the crimes couldn't be more obvious; its just that they had the 'police chief "(ie:congress) on the payroll. Now they won't.

Let him run.

6. McCain Wouldn't Live Long as President Anyway
He'll be forced to accept a hard fright-wing nutbar as VP, and we all know what happens after that.

Even if they don't off him, he really old and doesn't look all that healthy.

16. Well, okay--there's the up side of it...
We'd at last be rid of the hypocritical, 2-faced, sanctimonious, PHONY, McCain.

But of course the down side is that then shithead Jeb would become president.

7. I have said McCain/Jeb from the start but
I believe in the next two years, W will be in the 20% in the polls and to pair McCain up with Jeb in and election would be suicide.

23. That depends on how the Iraq war conclusion happens
If the war continues in its present form, you can
safely forget Jeb Bush on any ticket.

OTOH if US troops are mostly out of a stabilized Iraq
by mid-2008, then Jeb will be on the ticket. IMO this
possibility has only a very slim chance but can not be
completely discounted.

a promise that Jeb wouldn't run for Prez. Never thought about him as VP.

I think the Bush name will be pretty toxic. At least I hope so.

20. Yes, there is a group
of republicans advocating that McCain (or Rudy) select Jeb for the VP spot. McCain has proven himself more than willing to endure any public humiliation in order to acquire the republican ticket's top spot for '08. He would willingly accept eith Jeb or Newt, both of whom are being given consideration by the powers-that-be for the VP spot.

24. if McCain were to be so stupid - let him further sink his presidential ambitions
by allowing this rumour to float.

The public outside of Fla knows Jeb as: 1) yet another bush;
2) promising and delivering the Fla 'contested' vote to W; and 3) head cheerleader and actor per politicizing Terri Schaivo.

Given that #3 was the beginning of the end of public support for the GOP - and 1 and 2 now are growing liabilities... only an idiot would consider this (a Jeb! VP) a good idea.

Though McCain's cozying up to Bushco and Fallwell indicates some idiocy on his and/or his advisor's part.

If the American people are stupid enough to give yet another one a chance...particularly since he shows no inclination to be any different than the other two...well they will get what they deserve!!!
