Why was Baker in a brilliant RED scarf?
Most all the attendees at today's service for President Ford wore appropriate dark, mostly black clothing but James Baker wore a light tan overcoat with a brilliant red scarf around his neck. Was he sending a signal to someone?

Honorary pallbearers arrive for the transportation of former U.S. President Gerald Ford's casket to his State funeral in Washington January 2, 2007. They are (L-R) former Secretary of State James Baker, former national security adviser Brent Scowcroft, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Vice President Dick Cheney, and former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Alan Greenspan.

1. It's a fashion statement..
It says, "I wasn't taught to dress appropriately. Mama tried."

20. ?
Are you trying to say that heterosexual men aren't good at dressing ourselves?

I agree. But I don't think that's why Baker was wearing that bright red scarf.

and to whom?

Who needs to receive a message from Baker that he can't reach on the phone? Why would he have to resort to sartorial semaphore?

15. It's to represent the blood,
bushco has spilled after Baker helped enable them to power during the coup of 2000, with the refrain of they have counted the ballots over and over, when they never counted them in the first place.

And I hate the "you are supposed to wear dark stuff to the funeral" BS, a funeral should be about celebrating the perso's life, not mourning the person.

27. Yes, it is
when you do it on purpose.

Especially, when it's someone who never dresses in anything other the black normally.

23. For a state funeral, people normally dress in dark colors,

especially those who are pallbearers, honorary pallbearers, people speaking at the funeral.

And people like James Baker almost certainly own more than one topcoat and scarf, or could have bought more appropriate attire before the funeral.

It's odd.

24. Why was he wearing a tan trenchcoat?
If you watched the part of the funeral where they were outside the Capitol, he stuck out like a sore thumb, the only person that didn't have a dark coat on.
