Roll the drums and wave the searchlights—it’s time for the fourth annual
Rocknation/LBN "You Call This NEWS?" Awards!:applause:
It seems like only a year ago that we were all huddled here in the banquet room flinging "Well, DUH!"s around…it WAS a year ago? Well, that explains it! Anyhow, for the benefit of you newbie types, I founded these awards after noticing that certain stories in the Late Breaking News section seemed painfully out of place though they met DU’s newsworthiness criteria. I came to realize that it was because DUers are always so far ahead of the corporate media’s learning curve. I began responding to such stories by writing, "You call this NEWS?" I ask that question not of the people who started the threads—indeed, I consider them patriots for managing to read through the stuff. It has more to do with not tolerating the willfull ignorance that covering the Bush monarchy tries to force upon us all. So let’s throw down some props to the award’s elders, thank the DUers (not to mention DU) for making this event possible, and then find out who in 2006 gave journalism a bad name!

Thank you for coming--and for fighting back. In honor of the Democratic Congress who will be offically sworn in at noon EST today, and the true American who braved the political and religious shitstorm to put them there, I wish you good night and good luck, since we've already got the skill.
