"Bush.....promised to send lawmakers a budget plan that will balance federal accounts by 2012."

Bush Vows to Balance Budget, Cooperate With Democrats (Update2)

By Roger Runningen

Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush, facing a Democratic congressional majority for the first time in his presidency, promised to send lawmakers a budget plan that will balance federal accounts by 2012.

``Congress has changed,'' Bush said in remarks at the White House following a meeting with his Cabinet. ``Our obligations to the country haven't changed.''

Bush, outlining his agenda for the coming year, gave no hint about the direction he wants to take on the most pressing issue he faces: setting out a new U.S. strategy in Iraq. Lawmakers, including senior Republicans such as Senator Richard Lugar of Indiana, have warned the president that Congress must be consulted on the course ahead in the war.

2. This will allow him to blame the Dems for the deficit he and Repubs caused
He is merely being disingenuous because he will submit a totally unrealistic unacceptable budget that Dems cannot go along with, then he will try to dump all the blame on them for Repubs 6 years of out of control spending that has created largest deficits in history.

4. He will certainly try . . .
But no one believes the fuckin' goniff any more. Every time he puffs up his chest to seem "presidential," he just looks more pathetic.

He's going to have a miserable two years. I hope he doesn't lose it and do something *really* stupid

http://www.lafn.org/politics/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html'

I searched google images for "National Debt Chart" one day and voila! THanks!

Back in the 1980s Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan repeatedly complained that Ronald Reagan was running up the national debt in order to bankrupt the USA so that the Federal government could no longer afford any of its social programs, from Aid to Families with Dependent Children to Social Security to Medicare to veterans' benefits. He was right, but hardly anyone listened.

The Republicans are still trying to bankrupt the Federal government and they're still trying to eliminate every Federal social program, not only the remnants of FDR's New Deal but even going back to Teddy Roosevelt's conservationist programs.

They want to turn the National Park Service upside down and sell off our wilderness areas to pay for their tax cuts for billionaires. Some say that they were even trying to eliminate FEMA before the Hurricane Katrina disaster!

12. This is a graph of our yearly budget deficit, not National Debt
This is a pretty good graphic, but it is mislabled. Our "National Debt" is the cumulative sum of our yearly budget deficit, and now totals over $8,000,000,000,000 (That's Trillion, with a T).

Here's the free republic thread on this. Three solid pages of them pissed off at bush for ruining the economy and claiming they can't trust him. Bush should be sweating a little when a hardcore conservative website is spitting his name through clenched teeth :)

7. the creep is supposed to be out of office on jan. 20, 2009.
unless he has no intention of vacating the oval office (which i think he doesn't) why is he promising to balance a budget four long years after he has left the office in the white house.... the man is clearly revealing his intentions, or he is completely delusional.

15. He'll balance the budget by
cutting Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Student Loans, and health care for veterans. He'll find it easy to send congress a balanced budget by 2012...but that doesn't mean he can get it passed. He'll then say the Dem's are at fault that we don't have a balanced budget.

19. This is about 2008- Rovian
He'll put a bunch of crap in there that the Dems can't possibly support, and when it doesn't pass, repubs will claim that the Dems are responsible for the absolute mess he's made.
