Romney signs final round of new laws

BOSTON -- Teen drivers will face tougher training and stricter penalties, and gamblers will still be able to put down wagers on out-of-state races, under two bills signed into law by Gov. Mitt Romney, who allowed other bills to die on his final full day in office.

Before leaving the Statehouse for a final time, Romney also certified a 4.8 percent increase in the salaries of state lawmakers.

Romney also let other bills die by taking no action before the end of the legislative session, including a bill increasing patient confidentiality, a bill increasing regulations of birth certificates and a bill establishing a golf course capital improvement fund in Dennis.

The new gambling law extends the rights of the state's four horse and dog tracks to collect wagers on races broadcast from out-of-state tracks through the end of 2008.

But I've seen enough churches with weekly BINGO games and annual "Casino Nights" to realize that not all Christians are against gambling, even if I was a "bigot asshole."

It passed 52% to 48%, possibly due to the influx of people from other states. A lot of fundies were up in arms about it at the time, but you don't hear much opposition to it now.

People from neighboring states play the GA lottery, too. I don't think Alabama or SC have lotteries yet.

I live in Oklahoma and it is very clear that most Oklahomans have no problem with gambling judging by how full the Indian casinos are when I drive by them.

8. Here in Mississippi, gambling is THE big industry

the consciences in "Jesusland" are extremely flexible, to say the least. Fundamentalists won't oppose Romney because he signed pro-gambling legislation. They will, however, oppose him because he's a Mormon, and therefore not a "real" Christian. Depend on it.
