Rudy 2008 plans
So it appears that Rudy will make a run for president. His playbook seems to be inadequate to obtain the key fundraising personel and raise the cash to compete with McCain or Romney.

Do other Democrats like Rudy? I don't live in NYC, but he seemed capable, but I wouldn't vote for him.

I'm actually perplexed as to why he would run for President, since he really won't have a chance to get the nomination or win the General. He won't get the Southern states, and he would be lucky to get New York and the Blue states.

If MCain drops out due to age, then Rudy can beat Romney for the Nom, but Huckabee could make it close.

1. The fundies hate Rudy.
The guy I really want to see get the nom for the GOP is Brownback. By this time the US will be completely SICK of the fundies and the Dem candidate would most likely roll to victory.

2. Asshole. Bigtime.
All he has done since 9-11 is pretend that somehow his bothering to show up was an heroic act. He was a major jerk as mayor and he remains a major jerk.

Oh and he has zero chance of winning the nomination of the the Theofascist Party, so one has to ask: what purpose does his candidacy serve? It serves his ego, it serves up buckets of cash, and most importantly it serves to continue the charade that the Theofascist Party has a moderate secular faction, which it doesn't.

3. A Democrat mayor doing the exact same things on 9.11 would have been lynched
He built his bunker in WTC. Like Bush - first reaction was to run - uptown, but the media let that pass. He tried to hang on his mayorship post expiration.
The last day of his job, Dec 31, 2001 he signed 2 contracts obliging the City he bankrupted to build 2 expensive stadiums.
Did I mention on 9.10 the NYC budget came out showing Giuliani (aka El Duce) bankrupted the city - for the first time in many, many years of doing well?
And I didn't even touch on his racist attitudes, naming a police commissioners "copnnected (Bernard Kerik) and other little problems...

4. am I the only one who thinks this is a phony story?
I think this purloined playbook story is phony. Who would do this? Why would the Giuliani people talk about it. I think it's a ruse to try and innoculate Rudy against the Kerik/hanover/social tolerance stuff.

16. story
I never thought it could be a phony story. Maybe they are spinning it that way. Its certainly embarrasing from what I've heard, and its quite a detailed plan.

I really don't think he'll raise enought money, and has no shot. I'm just surprised that he's even going to try, but I guess he's got nothing else better to do.

5. I think he is probably better than the other two
and better than Hillary. I don't know much about him but, they say he has lots of liberal ideas.

6. Rudy doesn't have a shot in hell of being President.

Or getting the RNC nomination for that matter. He is pro-equal rights for homosexuals, pro-gun control, and pro-choice. Imagine the 30 second ad that will run on TV. It goes like this.

30 silent seconds of Rudy marching at the front of one of the gay pride parades in New York.

They will rip him open from his stomach to his ears on both sides of his body. If he doesn't take to harsh a beating he may be a viable VP nominee. He doesn't have a shot in hell of getting the Presidential nomination.

STill, it will be amusing and entertaining watching him try to woo the republican voters in the primaries. I wonder how Romney and McCain will attack him.

Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 09:16 PM by jcrew2001
when did u ask me? its difficult to keep track of all the threads.

I like Edwards.

I thought Bayh would have a shot, but he def couldn't run with the money issue.

I think Hillary can win with the name recognition, but I don't live in NYS anymore, so I haven't seen enough of her.

She might win the general, but it will be close.

I would pick Edwards/clinton as the ticket, or Edwards/Clark or even Richardson as VP.

Also, I think it should be okay to talk about republicans and who's running against the dems. I personally don't want a republican as the next president, but I don't think it'll ever be easy for democrats, especially with republican attack machine, and i guess I'm just kinda afraid of what Bush and his kind has done to country's political process.

7. Well, I lived in NYC for...
part of Rudy's time, and I couldn't stand him. If you think Shrub is arrogant, wait till Rudy pops his cork and tells someone off.

He did have a fair amount of support even before 9/11 because a lot of the city got cleaned up, but he was losing ground fast by picking fights with just about everyone he ran into. "Discussion" just wasn't anything he understood-- when you ran into him, he told you just what he was going to do and why you were an asshole to even question it. And don't ever take credit for something you did when working for him. Whatever good happened was all Rudy and everyone else was in the way. The best way to get fired in his administration was to get noticed for doing a good job.

Long before 9/11 he set up barriers at City Hall and locked up many of the previously public records. Even the City Council had to sue him to see the budget. The City spent millions defending itself from lawsuits trying to hide data it always gave away for free. And it always lost but then Rudy wouldn't turn over the numbers even in the face of a court order.

The walling off of City Hall really got to me. I worked downtown for most of my life, and City Hall park was always a great hangout. When Koch was Mayor, he had stuff going on on the steps a couple of times a week during lunch hour, and everyone always had a good time. City Hall was open to the public and if you were lucky, you might even run into Koch himself. Not under Rudy it wasn't. The public was the enemy long before the terrorists showed up.

Not that I really liked Koch all that much, either, but he believed in an open city with all its warts and didn't despise the public nor was he afraid of it.

Once Prince Rudy hits the road for real and people see the arrogant little twerp he really is it will be all over for him.

17. bloomberg
I don't live in NYC, but apparently Bloomberg's a popular guy. Wasn't he once a democrat?

He only switched when they didn't pick him over Green.

He could always switch back, haha. He'll probably run for senate if Hillary wins the WH. But then RFK JR, would also run for Senate.

19. Yeah, I think he was, but...
party jumping in NYC isn't unheard of. Between the incredible difficulty NY state makes it to get on an a ballot without party backing and the fractured NYC Democratic party, it's actually a lot easier to get a Republican nod than fight for a slot anywhere else.

Koch, for instance, was a Reform Democrat and had to fight off the Tammany wing of the party and buy off the Liberal party before he could get on the ballot. He cashed in a lot of chips he won as a House member to do it.

The Liberal Party was just a sham powerbroker and is no more and the Tammany wing is pretty much dead, from what I hear, but you still have to deal with the borough leaders and powerbrokers-- no mean feat at all. Republicans in NYC are pretty desparate for any candidate that won't embarass them, and a guy like Bloomberg, with his own money, is a gift to them.

20. south
I'm from upstate and I feel like there's a lot of republican supporters, although most of my friends young people are Dems. The adults were mostly Reaganites and anti-Cuomo. The republicans are better organized.

If I lived in the South, I would def try to run as a Democrat, for something, just to get on the ballot.

8. I consider him a fast talking lightweight fool....
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 01:26 AM by FrenchieCat
I'll tell you though, if there's a "terra" scare orchestrated by the current WH and their CIA/FBI or something similar close to the election, and we've got our own lightweight running, if either he or McCain get through the primaries and one of them gets the GOP nom, unfortunately they win with the help of the media.

and considering who are media is, it is not out of the impossible that Rudi's dumb ass or crazy ass kissing McCain end up in the WH. I mean, it worked for the dumbass we have in there now!

Only in America! Yep.....only in America! :eyes:

9. Fundies hate him b/c of abortion and gay rights. Dems b/c he's a fascist
control freak.

He had lots of arrests for minor violations in the name of "quality of life" such as graffiti, windshield washing, jaywalking, etc. When HIS cops shot anyone, they were beyond reproach and Giuliani even tried to defame the victims of police brutality. He had something going on with the head of his PR, started another relationship with a second woman, all while married to his second wife (first wife was a second cousin -- keeping up with me so far?). His image was so tarnished, he opted not to run against Hillary for NY Senate. 9-11 was the best thing that could have happened to his profile, although many of his short-sided decisions had a major negative impact on many firefighters, police, rescuers, and victims on that day (e.g., The Bunker and the radios).

He can't keep this farce of being America's Mayor going for long and in all 50 states. Truth will be more compelling.

Why do u think those 2 would beat Mccain?

They seem like long shots. I live in Mass and there's a lot of buzz about Romney, but that's due to the local media. I don't he'll be any where close to winning the nom.
