Give Nancy Pelosi a Chance
We have the first woman Speaker of the House in the history of the United States. This is a momentous moment in itself. Moreover, we have a concrete plan to make major changes to ethics, the minimum wage, prescription drugs, educational debt, and the 9/11 commission. I for one am willing to place my confidence in this tremendous woman and the rest of the Democratic leadership in leading this country. There are nay-sayers her who are quick to criticize, but frankly my wine glass right now is not half empty, it is delictably full. Give the woman a chance to do her job. Congress is not a place for idealists, it is a place for hard workers and pragmatists. We may have to comprimise to get some things done, but rest assured help is truly finally on the way.

Kudos to Nancy, Howard, and the rest of the team.

1. I fully intend to
I think she'll do great. It won't all happen on day one, but it will happen.

4. That's exactly what I'm talking about.
Do you really think the Iraq War can be brought to a sudden halt? What is Congress going to do, cut off funds, if they did that, say goodbye to 2008. We all talk about how big of a catastrofuck this has all been, and then we have unreasonable expectations for our leadership. Democrats, always eating their own. Nancy was against the damn war, but she's realistic, and we've got even more problems at home to worry about. She's going to do the best job she can, it's all going to take alot of time, and that's sad realization, but its the truth.

7. The part where we won the mid-term elections.
Not 100 hours, yes, there is a blitz, but this is war and we've got to buckle down for the next year and a half keep the damn Congres focused. The above poster is right, no free pass, and you may be using sarcasm (hint: indicate as such), but this is serious business and the "liberal elite" here at DU has a definite role to play and it is not kvetching and condemning our own.

8. Do you remember Nancy's promise
about what would get done during the first 100 hrs? I am not sure if you "got" my reference.

And this is also sarcasism /snark

9. Yes, I get your snark now, but its ill timed.
Nancy has not promised anything, she set a plan. I'm trying to mitigate some of the false optimism about the speed at which things actually get done in Washington. Hoyer is the one who made it sound as if these things are going to get passed right away. But there will be action, and we should rejoice on that fact.

"done"

10. Doing like increasing the min. wage
are easy. The first 100 hours are just going to help clean up some of the mess the repubs put us into over the last few years. But wanting troops out now is not easy. I have been against the stupid war from the beginning, but I am also a realist. GW is not going to bring the troops home tomorrow. No matter what congress says. The idiotic senator Lieberman will put a stop to that in the senate on a partisan vote. This is a good time to remind those democrats on this site who voted for him what a thorn in the flesh he is going to be for us. As far as Nancy Pelosi goes we will see a better speaker than we have for the last 12 years.
