Rumors about Cheney and Rice flying
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 09:04 AM by ProSense
over at Talking Points:

(January 06, 2007 -- 10:07 PM EST // link)

SPURIOUS RUMORS alert: Negroponte to State to replace Rice, who is tapped to replace ailing Cheney.

Update: As long as we're gossiping, did you hear what Laura said? Just between you, me, and the fence post, of course.

On edit: The other possibility is that Rice is on her way out.

1. Sounds like something he will pull.
Trouble is can he make any one his vice if he wants? It is an elected office but then we had Ford. How does this work any how? I am going to look it up in the Constitution for sure. Bush seems to be making up the rules as he goes along. I love we have our own Czar.

7. According to the 25th Amendment
If Cheney stepped down, Bush would get to appoint a successor to finish the term, BUT...

That person would have to be approved by both houses of Congress.

9. Well it did force me to read over part of Constitution and I could
have just waited for one of you knew-it-all to tell me. Some one knows every thing on this site that is for sure but it still did me some good to look it up on my own. Right? My kids were already half grown when that one was passed so I can see why I did not know a thing about it. I was in the middle of teen-age fun when it was passed. I hardly knew Nixon was gone when I had teens around.

12. Sorry, but I believe the Constitution is moot. I am sure that has been
Edited on Sun Jan-07-07 11:10 AM by rhett o rick
stated in a signing statement somewhere. Bush has not followed the Constitution or rule of law up to this point, what makes u think he will now. What if Cheney steps down and Bush makes a "in the time of war power" appointment, who will stop him. Can you spell coup?

19. I think Bush has made a signing statement.' I Bush hate this govt.'
I can not figure what he likes about it that is for sure but it is in the constitutions on the way to get a Vice or it is how I read it. Maybe that was one of the reasons Congress is not in the far rights back pocket now. Bush was getting to scary to to many people.

8. OK I got it. 25th amendment passed in 1967
Bush can give a name but a majority of both houses of Congress must go along with it. I am willing to bet Bush has his lawyers go over this and have found a way to do something to it that will hurt this country, for sure.

11. Section 2 of the 25th
bush can't put her in there, he can nominate her, but congres has to do the approving. In the case of Gerald Ford he was a generic selection and congress went along. But with all the screws up rice has done to you think for one minute this congress and that includes republicans also would approve her to be VP. Most VP don't do anything but that would put her in line for the VP if bush was impeached or died. And I don't think even the republicans are that dumb.

18. I wonder if Bush is trying to see how he could hand pick Next one?
he may find a way. I am sure he will pick Jeb and Rice. The man is an autocrat and seems to rule as if he thinks the country is with him on this.

2. Sounds possible. Her having proved herself totally
incompetent both as national security adviser and as Secretary of State, she's a natural for Dubya.

3. If ANYONE is going to replace Crashcart, it will be someone...
...who can be a viable candidate in '08. Condi is too female and, more importantly, too black for the tastes of southern Repugs. Of course, it will have to be another Bush loyalist (a white male). McCain's a possibility, but I really don't think the BFEE thinks he will be loyal enough to "keep the bodies buried." Same thing goes for Rudy G.

4. But don't forget, Cheney has a big trial (Libby) and investigations pending.
He might just want to 'get' while the getting is good.

5. Yes
they need someone reliable (notice how * made a big point at Ford's funeral about how he pardoned Nixon - * may need someone to do the same for him).

10. Yes, he all but yelled the word "pardon"!
He was VERY distinct about that statement. There were a couple other statements where he did the same thing, but I can no longer remember what they were.

17. "The other possibility is that Rice is on her way out."
I wouldn't doubt it. She hasn't looked too happy lately. Always seems to have a scowl on her face and on more adoring eyes toward Bush.

Then who would get Cheney's place? McCain! Then he'd already be right there as vice President and perfectly set up for the 2008. That's why he's pushing Bushes' policies so hard. I'm sure Bush told the scumbag, "If you support me now I'll make you VP." Why else would he be pushing so many new troops when the country doesn't want it?

I think McCain will be VP soon...regardless of if or who else gets
shuffled around.

21. that is very interesting about McCain getting in as VP, but
I think they are planning well not exactly planning, with the invasion of Iran, which will be a very stupid and dangerous move, but apparently we have maniacs running/ruining this world.

23. unfortunately I think you could be right. Cheney might be indicted along with Libby
That could encourage him to leave "due to health issues." In comes VP McCain and he's ready for the '08 election with his "experience."

I'm glad to discover they aren't those sorts of rumors.

Later today, I'll try to erase that image. Gin for breakfast is never a good idea.
