Poll shows Hillary Clinton way ahead and Lieberman close behind
Sen. Clinton gets 42 percent of the Democratic vote, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds, compared to 15 percent for her nearest rival, Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman, the Democratic candidate for Vice President in 2000.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt get 11 percent each, followed by 7 percent for North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, 3 percent for former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean and 2 percent for Rev. Al Sharpton.

Without Clinton, Lieberman gets 27 percent, with 18 percent for Kerry, 16 percent for Gephardt, 14 percent for Edwards, 6 percent for Sharpton and 3 percent for Dean.

This poll was done in February, 2003. That would make it about a month ahead relationally to polls taken now to the beginning of the primary season in 2008.

6. Except that the front runners 2 yrs ahead of an election rarely go on to win.

7. Very misleading post, as well as pointlessly out of date.
What is your point to post this?

And please explain what on earth your last sentence means:
"That would make it about a month ahead relationally to polls taken now to the beginning of the primary season in 2008."

Relationally ? ? ? ?

And exactly when do you consider the "beginning of the primary season in 2008" to commence?

I mean, this poll didn't hold water in 2004, when Senator Clinton did not get the nomination. It is certainly of no import now.

8. The point is polls taken now are probably as irrelevant as polls taken then
were to 04.

14. Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!
That was my point.

The poll taken in February 2003, which was 11 months from the primary season in 2004, is relationally the same as a poll taken in February 2007, which was 11 months from the primary season in 2008.

How could this have gone over some people's heads? Shhheshhh....

9. If Gore had picked a better VP, that person would have started with a great
advantage and Democrats would have had a better chance of winning.

That's one message I get from this.

lieman or he felt he had to listen to his fucking dlc advisers?

I highly doubt it.

12. I don't think this has anything to do with Kerry.
It shows how much the polls change. Lieberman was the lead candidate, Kerry was behind him, and Dean wasn't even breaking 5 percent.

Things change, polls change. The point is to not be preparing to give Hillary Clinton her crown just yet!

15. Actually, yes...
Being a frontrunner so early in the pre-primary season has historically proven to be a complete disadvantage when the primary season actually starts. Do some homework on this. You might be a tad surprised.

Ever hear of President Lieberman, President Muskie, President McCarthy, President Wilkie, President Dean...

17. True, but I don't think Dean was a front runner this early
at the same time of the last primaries.

I'm only saying that because you included him in your list of past "non-presidents" who were high on the list of frontrunners, so I'm assuming you're saying that he was a front runner more than a year before the primaries. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

18. Thats the point.
Dean was no body this early on in the race last time, and Lieberman was the frontrunner. Months later Dean was a frontrunner, and Lieberman was in the back of the pack.

The point is this poll was from about this time in 2003, and here we are in 2007 again relying on the polls a year out.

The general point in this post was don't say Edwards, Obama, or Hillary is the nominee until the smoke has cleared. Because a lot of people did that last time, and it didn't turn out like they expected.

11. Quick Opinion
I hope Hillary doesn't win, same with Lieberman. Kerry's too damaged from his obscene "Joke."
Hill and Lieb are both practically Thompsonish with their opposition to video game freedom, and Lieb's comments that one must be religious to be moral are very off.

Does anyone know of a Democratic Candidate who doesn't want to control our minds?????

13. May be instead of taking some MSN
view of Kerry look up his record. The MSN gave us bush up the ass. Kerry is a good man and a smart one. Look at his record. Don't let the slimy news media make your choice. The corporations are scared shit of him that is why you get that mis-statement over and over. He is my senator and I think he is great, and would be a great President.

16. I'd love the other candidates to make an issue of Kerry's "botched joke"
You'd see them handed back their head politically, slightly smashed and possibly inoperable.

Even righties thought the Bush administration's desperate attempts at making an issue of Kerry's so-called "botched joke" was pathetic.

19. Interesting question, and welcome to DU.
Does anyone know of a Democratic Candidate who doesn't want to control our minds?

Do any Democratic candidates truly want to do that? I'm not saying they do or don't, just that your question is food for thought.

BTW, as far as what you said about Kerry being too damaged from his "botched joke", I don't think he had a any real chance even before the "botched joke" happened.

20. That poll was before the war in Iraq
especially before the "War on Terror" became a total clusterf**k.
These are early days. Your point is well taken.

However, it also matters greatly what the candidates do in the
next 12 months.
