Abortion rights activist backs Edwards
Abortion rights activist backs Edwards
By Beth Fouhy--Associated Press
Friday, January 5, 2007
----
WASHINGTON--Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has won the backing of Kate Michelman, an influential abortion rights activist who served as president of the NARAL-Pro Choice America for nearly 20 years.
Michelman will serve as a senior adviser to the Edwards campaign, helping with outreach to women voters.
In an interview, Michelman said she was inspired by Edwards' commitment to women's rights and to the goal of eradicating poverty in the United States. Michelman spent time on welfare as a single mother of three.
"He has never backed down or retreated from a woman's right to choose, and he understands women's role in society. And he knows that most Americans in poverty are women and children," Michelman said.
Even with Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton poised to become the first major female presidential candidate in history, Michelman said she was unwavering in her support for Edwards.

1. The kiss of Death
Damn!

That endorsement will destroy edwards in the south..

he needs to let it be known quickly that he doesnt support
abortion on demand after a certain point...like the second trimester.

Otherwise the repubs will beat him to death
with 30 second blurbs featuring kate michelman.

He'll end up getting a sympathy card from the swift-boated john kerry.

I was leaning towards edwards because i thought he might
be quasi competitive in the south-but that endoresment
will makes it impossible- unless he is willing to respectfully digaree with kate
who wants no limitations on abortion right up till the moment of delivery.

We dont need a another easily caricatured candidate.
This is trult bad news

I really do hope Gore runs now...

4. PLEASE!!! he'll be fine Edwards is staking out his base remember....
this is for the democratic nomination not the general election. Edwards has learned that running as a centrist DNC will not win you the nomination in the party. in 04 he ran as the centrist candidate and lost in the primaries.
