The Nation Demands Impeachment next Monday, Help us...

Take a moment, and help convince Nancy Pelosi to Impeach Bush/Cheney..

Pelosi most likely said impeachment was "off the table" to remove any appearance of conflict-of-interest that would arise if she were thrust into the presidency as a result of the coming impeachment.

What we need to do is to pressure Pelosi not to interfere with impeachment maneuverings within her party. Sending her Do-It-Yourself impeachments legitimizes her when she is forced to join the impeachment movement in the future.

Sacks and sacks of mail are about to arrive in Nancy Pelosi's office initiating impeachment via the House of Representative's own rules this Monday January 15th. This legal document is as binding as if a State or if the House itself passed the impeachment resolution (H.R. 635).

There's a little known and rarely used clause of the "Jefferson Manual" in the rules for the House of Representatives which sets forth the various ways in which a president can be impeached. Only the House Judiciary Committee puts together the Articles of Impeachment, but before that happens, someone has to initiate the process.

That's where we come in. In addition to a House Resolution (635), or the State-by-State method, one of the ways to get impeachment going is for individual citizens like you and me to submit a memorial. ImpeachforPeace.org has created a new memorial based on one which was successful in impeaching a federal official in the past. You can find it on their website as a PDF.

You can initiate the impeachment process and simultaneously help to convince Pelosi to follow through with the process. Do-It-Yourself by downloading the memorial, filling in the relevant information (your name, state, etc.), and sending it in. Be a part of history.

1. Impeachment is a success that hasn't happened yet
Who would you impeach first, Bush or Cheney? Obviously Cheney is the smarter (and therefore more dangerous) of the pair, but impeaching Cheney first would allow Bush to select a VP to replace him. Ford pardoned Nixon, and this nation can't stand another pardon of another Republican crook. On the other hand, impeaching Bush first leaves Cheney as Pres, for however long. He, then, could pick a VP.

If we could impeach them both simultaneously, then we'd have President Pelosi. Ah, that has a nice ring to it.

2. Welcome to DU!
I don't mind the idea of cheney as temporary "pResident." That really doesn't scare me. I suspect it'll shock the shit out of him to be thrust into the spotlight, when he'd MUCH rather be operating in the shadows, behind the curtains, in the darkness where nobody can see what he's up to. Might aggravate some condition in him and make him resign early, especially with Henry Waxman gnawing on his legs. Besides, the clock is ticking on however long either of them has to make trouble. Some people get unwigged by the thought of getting rid of bush - leaving cheney in place. But if that were done, it would leave the WHOLE republi-CON party in such disarray and turmoil, and steeped in such bad vibes, that we could run Howdy Doody in '08 and win. Back in 1976, it was enough to have an "r" by your name to get you bounced. Didn't much matter who you were. The whole republi-CON name was sullied by the Nixon business. Nobody was willing even to call themselves republi-CON, no less vote for one.

It would be the ultimate check to this administration's arrogance to remove the head. The shock to their system from a take-down this monumental would render them complete eunuchs. Frankly, I would relish seeing cheney look so humbled and defeated, forced to carry on amid all those bad vibes. And he's already so unpopular, he'd have to dig a hole in the floor to chart his new poll numbers. With cheney at the top, it would only underscore with voters how urgent it is to switch parties at the White House level.

It is just a REALLY critical thing we at least have to attempt. Because crimes this grievous, against the people and our Constitution, demand nothing less. And the signal it would send to future presidents considering such a power grab would be significant. If bush could be stopped this severely, so could they. It is vitally important that we send that message - to history, and to future generations.

4. Yes, we must act. We can't see all the future ramifications...
...but any of them are better than status quo.

I cannot bear to think of another drifting into history with no accountability, a la Reagan, et al.

12. Thanks! It's not something I am worried about - cheney in charge.
Hell, he already is, anyway. This would just cast some nice, bright spotlights on the puppeteer for a change, and throw him out of his comfort zone. What worries me far more is the idea that bush will stroll off into history unscathed - no consequences for his horrendously shitty actions, no trip to the woodshed, no demonstration that NO ONE is above the law (letting him go, unpunished, would certainly crap in the face of THAT idea, forever more).

:hi:

3. What a great sentiment!
The more we act in that vein, the more the Repugs will have to fear that maybe we know something they don't!

So yes, let's fake it 'til we make it!

Welcome to DU.

11. That is exactly what I think will do the job. Simply impeaching the nutjobs isn't enough. (nt)

8. Don't impeach them
congress should start investigations for treason ,that way the both of them and their gang would go to jail whether they are in office or not.
