A. No. It's personal. My personal religious views will not influence the decisions I make as I will be the elected leader of people of multiple faiths and beliefs.

5. It's been said people are turned off by Dems because they don't
discuss their religion, or lack thereof. As if your religious persuasion has anything to do with your political leanings, though people like Romney have already been pretty much discounted from what I read because he's a - gasp! - Mormon. I don't like Romney, but his being a Mormon has nothing to do with it.

I'm with you; it ain't nobody's business but my own.

6. The RWingnuts would scream "Atheist!"
Because, after all, Christianists go out of their way to pray in the marketplace, just like the Bible says.

all the answers you hear are wrong.

10. Every Democrat should ask the reporter...
What is your religion?

How often do you attend church?

What other function do you perform other than church attendance?

How often do you read your Bible?

Would you vote for a Roman Catholic?

Would you vote for a Muslim?

Would you vote for a Mormon?

Would you vote for a Jew?

Would you vote for an Agnostic?

Would you vote for an Atheist?

Do you believe in the Constitution's separation of church and state?

Would you vote for a corrupt holier than thou Republican over an honest non-religious Democrat?

11. Waitasecond
Why shouldn't my religious views influence the decisions I might make as an elected representative? A lot of people are mean, selfish bigots. Part of my rationale for housing the homeless, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and visiting the sick and imprisoned comes from my faith. I can't do that anymore because it might make some nitwit uncomfortable?

Fuck that noise. In God's love, of course.

12. What about people who do all those things.

And who are not religious? Would you not vote for them because they answered, "No. It's personal. My personal religious views will not influence the decisions I make as I will be the elected leader of people of multiple faiths and beliefs."

If your answer is, "I wouldn't care and would vote for them anyway" then ... what was the point of your post? The OP said the above answer was one s/he would probably never hear in our lifetime. This is because Political Correctness demands that every politician pretends to have faith whether s/he does or not.

13. So why would I, as a politician . . .
Claim that my religious beliefs would never ever influence my political actions? Unless I wanted to be a liar, I suppose. I'm comfortable being a person of faith and explaining how that faith informs my world view and motivates -- at least in part -- my actions. I know that's not very popular in some corners of DU, and there is no shortage of folks who cynically claim a faith or hide behind a profession of faith to practice their mean little bigotries. While that makes my life a great deal harder, I don't feel compelled to trim my faith just to fit someone else's notion of morality.

Why shouldn't I be honest and forthright that many of my liberal political views are shaped and reinforced by my religious beliefs and practices?

14. Why did you not answer the question?
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 02:36 PM by ieoeja
Concerning your or any politicians religious beliefs... I. Do. Not. Care.

Now answer the Goddamn question. Do you care? Does it make a difference to you that politician A is a Protestant Christian, B is a Jew, C is a Muslim, D is an Atheist and E is a Roman Catholic?

And again, THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. Why can you (and so many others on DU) not see this simple fact. WE DON'T CARE. You can be as fucking religious as you want. We don't care. What upsets us is that too many of your fellow religionists DO care. The majority of Americans will NOT vote for an Atheist.

And here's something else for you. I have listened to morning DJs call me "evil" because I am an Atheist. My former 3rd/4th grade teacher screamed at me for several minutes in a bar, accusing me of "worshipping Satan", because I am an Atheist. The President of the United States said that I could "not be a good citizen", because I am an Atheist.

And you cry in your sacremental wine because some DUers don't like Christians? I have been refused service three times because of my skin color. I have been pulled over by the police because of my skin color. But I don't complain about it, because the small amount of racism I have suffered as a White guy is virtually nothing compared to the racism suffered by non-Whites. I have no more business whining about that than you have whining about anti-Christian discrimination.
