Call me crazy, but I would love to see Ann Richards,

the former govenor of Texas, on the ticket as VP.

She is a fireplug that would make the election so much fun to watch. I would also love to see GW have to defend his turf in Texas. He makes Dems do that ala CA in 2000. Let's turn the tables on him. There is no doubt that Ann would love another shot at GW.

Does anyone else have any wild ideas about who should be VP? I don't want to hear safe bets like Edwards or Gephardt. Get creative and think of some of the other Dems that would make this an exciting race to watch.

I think she has too many skeletons in her closet for her to be nationally viable.

Maybe some other Texans can elaborate. I like her personality, love to hear her talk, think she is great in many ways, but I don't think she would be a good choice for VP.

Kay Barnes.

She is pro trade, but also very pro community.
I think she has a good sense of what needs to be fixed
in the Urban environment.

In general, I think that a mayor or governor from a contested state might be a good Veep choice. So Gov. Holden might also be on that list.
Perhaps Jean Carnahan, as well.

Missouri Dems could also play into a southern vote strategy.
And on the subject of crumbling highways, effects of job loss, and the need for more and better public transportation, any of these would be a good candidate.

Missouri is affected by several factors important to the 04 race.
Agriculture, GM foods, Aerospace, transportation, environment, jobs, and the social agendas of the right. They have been on issue for a long time in this state.

to be on that ticket. There is no way Holden gets the pick. I'm worried that McCaskell may beat him in the dem primay for govenor. Holden is not that popular even with Dems.

He has a weak demeanor- skated into office on Carnahan's coattails. The pukes have been able to manipulate circumstances to make things look like everything that is going wrong is his fault. He doesn't have the personality to counter it. On top of that, he has made a lot of political mistakes.
I don't think now is the time to risk a woman on the ticket. I want a safe ticket. We've got to win! I like the idea of looking at Governors, though because 2 Senators is sort of inbreeding. ALTHOUGH that idea of having Jeffords on the ticket sounds original and doesn't seem so much like inbreeding.

I feel for Holden. He did what was right for Missouri schools and the Repubs have beaten him to death with it for the past year. The guy just doesn't have what it takes to play ball with the hard ass Republicans.

I'm hoping that the desire to get rid of Bush will help us in the govenors race against Blunt and in the race for US Senate. I'm going to Nancy Farmer's announcement on Thursday. I pray that she unseats Bond.

Hillary offers alot, but she is not a Southerner, so cannot, I think, add any states beyond NY or Ill. She would, though, bring some excitement to the ticket. Also Bill, the big dog, would be directly campaigning with her. So that'd add something, but might turn off the conservatives. I think that, playing it safe, he should consider someone like Wes Clark. He would add some of those southern states, plus has the General thing going. He is also brilliant, which can be helpful. Someone on d.u. once said that Teresa Heinz would prefer Edwards, and that she has some affinity with Edwards' wife. I think it is great that she is thinking along such practical lines, and being really honest. I just wonder if she has met Gert yet, because maybe she would also have an affinity with her. It's just such a weird election year, I guess all bets are off. Maybe if Kerry is going to be the nominee, which seems more and more likely- he should do public speaking gigs with some of these short list veeps. I know that when I saw him with Gephardt, something didn't feel right. Much as I love Gep, I had to say I wasn't energized with the two of them.
