“The horse will be out of the barn by the time we get there"
“The horse will be out of the barn by the time we get there,” Senator Kennedy replied. “The president makes his speech now. We’re going to get the appropriation request probably the end of January, early February.” He said it could take eight more weeks for Congress to act. “By that time, the troops will already be there,” he said. “And then we’ll be asked, are we going to deny the body armor to the young men and women over there?”
-Ted Kennedy

A little Maureen for the early birds...

"With the Surge, as with the invasion of Iraq, W. is like the presumptuous date “who reserves a hotel room and then asks you to the prom,” as my friend Dana Calvo put it."

1. That was probably the most significant point of his speech.
I was pleased to hear his committment to all haste necessary-particularly given the glacial pace of the senate when, like a reluctant four year old, they are asked to to something of importance that they don't want to do.

2. Well I think he got it. I bet they are over in Middle East now.
The war is getting hot once more. No one is ever going to get Bush to believe that a hand full of terrorist will win. He has also zapped up the terrorist until you would think they had the power of the old USSR. If this group of backers of Bush had their way we would still be in Saigon.

4. True.....
many troops for Bush's "surge" are already on their way or there as we speak. He was never going to wait for Congressional approval, he's "the decider", after all. :eyes: The Democrats will be forced to fund the surge since the troops are already there. We lose again. Our country loses again. The world loses again. All because "the decider" thinks himself a dictator beholding to no one.

5. The Ass Escaped From The Asylum Long Ago
and took refuge in the White House. It is about time Congress noticed and said so.

8. What the dems. need to do is to continue to hit on the point that the Presidents
actions border on unConstitutional actions. The Constitution clearly states that the President does not have these abilities, even the "War President"
