Looking good: Mr. Blackwell's '06 worst-dressed list
By Leigh Grogan - Bee Staff Writer
Published 12:00 am PST Wednesday, January 10, 2007

It's that time of year again. Time for Mr. Blackwell's "Worst Dressed Women List." Can you believe it has been 47 years since Blackwell first chronicled, as he puts it, the "follies, foibles and fashion flops" of international famous faces?

This might have been the former designer's busiest year. There were plenty of fashion disasters, from Britney Spears' infamous underwear faux pas to Sharon Stone, well, not really having a clue most of the time.

So, because we know you're eager to know who made the list, here are the top 10. And remember, as actress Lynn Redgrave expressed it best: "You haven't made it until you've made 'the list!' "

10. Meryl Streep

9. Sandra Oh

8. Tori Spelling

7. Sharon Stone

6. Paula Abdul

5. Mariah Carey

4. Christina Aguilera

3. Lindsay Lohan

2. Camilla Parker-Bowles

1. (a tie) Britney Spears and Paris Hilton

Hits, not misses

And, as usual, Mr. Blackwell gives nods to those celebrated women who were Fabulous Fashion Independents for 2006.

They include: Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Barbra Streisand, Beyoncé, Nancy Pelosi (new speaker of the House), Princess Charlotte of Monaco, Heidi Klum, Katie Holmes and Marcia Cross (pregnant with twins).

3. Interesting, perhaps,
but frankly I'm more interested in a list of the ten women who have done the most to contribute to peace and understanding in the world. I could care less what they wore.

5. I can understand why some women dress
badly. They can't afford fashion designer clothes, they don't have the time to spend on looking good, their figures are beyond repair. Most active politicians don't have the time to look their best.

But what is Laura's excuse? She has all the money in the world, she doesn't seem to do much, so why can't she take the time and effort to look good? Her clothes are just awful.

Have you seen that clip on Countdown that shows Laura and the crazy king george getting off a plane or helicopter in the rain. She buttons up her rain coat and follows the king. That is the ugliest, shapeless sack I have ever seen a woman voluntarily wear. When I was in the military, we were forced to wear these ugly black sacks for raincoats. That is what Laura is wearing voluntarily. I hope she didn't pay for that because she could have dug it out of any military dumpster. With her round figure, she needs something with darts and a waist line. She needs to add a little color. The woman just has no idea how to dress and she has no excuse for it.

6. She could afford a desperately needed stylist.

If she really doesn't care about clothes or style, hire someone who does! I know it's sexist & some might say trivial, but women in the public eye are judged on their appearance, like it or not.

Now, Speaker Pelosi...she's another story! Rumor has it she doesn't like to shop, but she always looks well turned out!
