2. The rightwing blames Rahm Emanuel for changing "surge" to "escalate."

Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, has spearheaded the changing of the terminology of the troop increase from "surge" to "escalation." Democrats also are careful to make clear that efforts to reduce appropriations will be limited to the "escalation," not the present troops in the field.
