Glenn Beck
Philadelphia-based radio host Glenn Beck began his radio career at 13 after winning a radio station contest. He worked for several years as a disc jockey and entered the world of talk radio in 2001. His show, The Glenn Beck Program, is currently syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks to nearly 200 stations nationwide as well as XM Satellite Radio's America Right.

Beck has said that after he began his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, he was baptized as a Mormon in 2000 and launched his talk show, which started on Tampa, Florida's, WFLA-AM in 2001. Premiere Radio picked up the show in 2002.

Beck does not identify himself as a Republican, but he vocally supports the Bush administration. He also supports the Iraq war (he held a series of rallies in 2003 to support the invasion of Iraq), opposes abortion rights, and opposes raising the minimum wage. He has been critical of the entertainment industry, especially television shows that feature gay characters.

Beck is the author of The Real America: Messages from the Heart and Heartland (Pocket Books, 2003) and publishes Fusion magazine, which Beck's website says includes "the latest perspective on what is happening in our world, coupled with my personal thoughts as a 'work in progress' as well as cutting edge comedy and satire."

CNN Headline News hired Beck for a prime-time program that began in May 2006.

On blaming victims, especially vocal ones

"I find this guy despicable. Everything in me says that. The want to be a better person today than I was yesterday says he's a dad, he's grieving, but I don't buy that. I'm sorry, I don't buy it. I think he is grieving, but I think he's a scumbag as well. I don't like this guy at all." <5/14/04>

"But the second thought I had when I saw these people , and they had to shut down the Astrodome and lock it down, I thought: I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9-11 victims." <9/9/05>

On killing filmmaker Michael Moore

"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?" <5/17/05>

On anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan as a prostitute

"Who's a bigger prostitute? Heidi Fleiss or Terrell Owens? Who's the person out there -- who's the bigger prostitute: Heidi Fleiss or Howard Dean? No, not even Howard Dean. John Kerry . Who's the bigger prostitute? Who'll do anything for power or money? I mean, at least Heidi Fleiss -- this is saying something -- at least Heidi Fleiss will admit to being a prostitute. You know what I mean? At least she'll say, 'Hey, I'm doing it for cash.' ... Cindy Sheehan. That's a pretty big prostitute there, you know what I mean?" <1/10/06>

On supporting torture

"f I'm an interrogator, and they say, 'I read in your papers that you cannot torture me,' I'll say, 'Yeah, you know, you saw another thing in the papers, you saw pictures of people being tortured. And I just want you to look around, little, uh, Habib, here, I want you to look around the room. Notice one thing is missing, and that's called a camera.' " <6/23/04>

1. Pages of stuff from Media Matters...

Though, my personal "favorite" is when he goes off on the horrible political correctness that he has to endure by seeing braille writing on signs--it "drives me out of my mind."

On the August 24 edition of his CNN Headline News program, nationally syndicated radio host Glenn Beck claimed that Braille on walls (used to identify rooms for blind people) "drives me out of my mind." When he made his comment, Beck was discussing the "politically correct world we live in," which, he claimed, will not allow "stereotypes or sensitive questions" to be broached. He explained that "a blind person would have to be feeling all of the walls to find 'kitchen.' " Beck then waved his hands about, presumably to mimic the actions of a frustrated blind person. He then said, "Just to piss them off, I'm going to put in Braille on the coffee pot ... 'Pot is hot.' "

2. Beck...
is the rancid, oozing boil on Rush Limpball's ass that kept him from performing his military service. If this is the type of person our young people are admiring and emulating, then we are indeed in trouble, and what we do today will only provide a temporary stop-gap for real tyranny tomorrow. My o2. Thanks.

3. I find it hard to believe that GBEck
has been on as long as he has. I surf channels to Headline News at night, and find that jerk on there! Why hasn't he been fired! He ain't pretty, funny or anything redeemable whatsoever!

5. Becks total viewers on Monday night, January 8
....

278k at 7:00 PM and 194k at 9:00 PM....

But I guess if the biggest rating draw for CNN light is Nanci Grace at 446k at 8:00 PM, then you can look at Beck and say yea, at least some people are watching our show...

The best thing to do is keep track of who is advertising on his show and write them letters....

It's what the other side does...

4. You covered the issues quite well ...
but what also has to be addressed is this unspoken aura Glenn Beck meticulously creates ... sort of like the audience is The Fraternity Presidents' best friend. They're all sitting in the pool room and this wonderful guy is giving them his personal attention. Perhaps those who are drawn to Beck are impressed by his "I'm gonna let you in on a secret" type lures and teasers. The reasoning behind the FULL attraction is honestly lost on me.

IMO, those of us who are able to see past "the mask" only note a profoundly conflicted personality with uncontrollable delusions of grandeur.

However, I'm humbled by the fact that many people more intelligent (IQ scale) than myself are drawn to Glenn Beck's performance. As I mentioned previously, I don't get the full picture, but I think it has something to do with the way Beck exudes nothing but "self-importance."

Wrapped up in one neat package, Glenn Beck can be considered, IMO, a poster child for "The Ugly American." He's *nationalistic arrogance personified* wrapped-up with iddy biddy fascist blue beady eyes and a good ole' boy racist smirk. :scared: :yoiks:

7. Glenn Beck is the aryian (sp?) blonde nazi-Hitler type. He has
KKK written all over him. He will now also be a contributor with Diane Sawyer on GMA. I shall not watch ABC again.
