Lieberman is a treasonous, rat bastard.
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2007/Sen._Lieberman_backs_Bush_troop_surge_0110.html

<snip>
"I applaud the President for rejecting the fatalism of failure and pursuing a new course to achieve success in Iraq. There is no more difficult decision that a President can make than to send our nation’s bravest soldiers and patriots into harm’s way. Yet, no objective is more worthy in defending America’s vital national security interests than aiding a struggling democracy and supporting brave moderates who are in a life and death struggle against totalitarian extremists supported by Al Qaeda and Iran.

Our troops have sacrificed much and now more will be asked of them to defend our nation. They fight in a just, noble and moral cause against the forces of terrorism, and their sacrifices will make America and the world more secure. I want our troops to return home as soon as possible – after we allow, enable and support them in accomplishing their mission in Iraq in finishing this fight.

I know there are deep differences of opinion about what the President has proposed tonight. In the coming days and weeks, we should undertake respectful debate and deliberation over this new plan. But, let us also remember that excessive partisan division and rancor at home only weakens our will to prevail in this war. I am particularly pleased that the President has taken the important and necessary step of creating a bi-partisan Consultative Group consisting of representatives and leaders of the Executive and Legislative branches to address issues related to the war against global terrorism.

At the moment, we and our Iraqi allies are not winning in Iraq and the American people are understandably frustrated by the miscalculations, the lack of progress, and the daily scenes of violence and casualties. But, make no mistake - defeat in Iraq would result in a moral and strategic setback in our global struggle against Islamist extremists who seek to strike our interests and our homeland.

Success is attainable in Iraq, and tonight the President has offered a comprehensive program to chart a new course in both winning the military struggle to establish order and in achieving the political and economic objectives to build a more promising future for Iraqis. However, no progress is possible unless we restore order, particularly in Baghdad.

Tonight, the President did not take the easy path, but he took the correct and courageous course. We are engaged in a world-wide struggle against Islamist extremism, and Iraq is now the central front. It is a dangerous illusion to believe that we can depart Iraq and the inevitable killing fields and terrorist violence will not follow us in retreat - even to our own shores. That is why it is right and imperative that we recommit ourselves to success in Iraq. Weakness only emboldens our enemy, but united resolution will make our nation safer for generations to come."
<snip>

I despise this man. Completely. :grr:

49. I have to agree!
Crazy he may have been, but at lezt Zell never pretended to be anything besides what he was. I'd rather have an honest but batshit politician than a lying and batshit one.

Of course I'd rather get hit in the mouth with a brick-in-a-sock than either of those, yes...

In joes case, I have to wonder. It could be that he sincerrely thinks this. How old is he? His facial expressiosn are starting to look very vacant and disjointed. It could very well be that he's simply losing touch with reality, in a very real way. In which case, I feel for him.. .and want him to go home for a good, soothing retirement.

74. Zell Miller was a good Democratic governor who

did good things for Georgia, encouraged Bill Clinton to run for president, introduced him to Carville and Begala (who had run Zell's campaign), made a great speech at the convention that nominated Clinton the first time. He got weird after he was appointed to the Senate.

I know people think he's a DINO but my impression is that he still believes in most of the Democratic Party's principles. He still considers himself a Democrat and has said he always will. He was a Marine so it's not too unusual that he has the "support the CINC unquestioningly" mentality.

At least Zell didn't switch to the GOP and run for re-election, as he could well have done. He'd have probably been re-elected on either party's ticket because he has a long history in Georgia politics. I'm glad he chose to retire, though he was replaced by a Republican.

Holy Joe, OTOH, wouldn't take "No" for an answer from the Dems in Connecticut and has talked about going over to the GOP. Not to mention his role in robbing Al Gore of the presidency he won.

If only HE would retire. . .

19. Don't be surprised if he announces for President in '08
Lieberman's got his Senate Seat locked for six years. Supporting Bush's war gambit is all upside, especially given that Lieberman's support of the war all along. Like Bush, Lieberman has nothing to lose and everything to gain by driving the country into more war. If the "surge" fails (no timeframe for that decision, I guess), then Lieberman's blame level remains unchanged at "high." Bush goes from political oblivion to political oblivion -- no change.

Lieberman no longer has enough credibility as a Democrat to give Bush bipartisan cover. Democratic voters rejected him and Mr. Bush's war in last year's primary and he went on to hold on to his Senate seat with Republican votes and White House money. He was the de facto Republican candidate.

Lieberman, your name is Wormtongue.

57. Its not that simple
He narrowly beat Lamont in the general mostly because the Repugs did not back their Candidate Alan Schlesinger. Once it came out that ALan had some old gambling problem history, they dropped him like a hot potato. The WH put its support behind LIEberman who used KKKarl Rovian campagin tactics including a $375,000 "Petty Cash" slush fund in his PAC that he did not have to give a full accounting of. Nope, I'm not over my anger yet.

62. Yes, it certainly is.
They were afraid to take a chance on Lamont who the media portrayed as a "Greenwich millionaire" giving the impression that he was buying a Senate seat. As a matter of fact, our state legislative Dem. leader, Amman, accused him of that in exactly those words in an editorial. Anyone who wanted to looks closer at him discovered that he had a good background having grown up in a family involved in public service over several generations. But the lazybrained just ate up what the MSM fed them.
It is very discouraging.

46. How fucking stupid can you get?
Yes, extremists are supported by Al Qaeda and Iran, but Al Qaeda is supporting the Sunnis, and Iran is supporting the Shi'ites. And if you haven't noticed, Sen. Dumbfuck, the Sunnis and Shi'ites are FIGHTING EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!

From the 3rd paragraph in the OP:

I know there are deep differences of opinion about what the President has proposed tonight. In the coming days and weeks, we should undertake respectful debate and deliberation over this new plan. But, let us also remember that excessive partisan division and rancor at home only weakens our will to prevail in this war. I am particularly pleased that the President has taken the important and necessary step of creating a bi-partisan Consultative Group consisting of representatives and leaders of the Executive and Legislative branches to address issues related to the war against global terrorism.{emphasis mine}

So now it's a war on Global Terrorism? Does this mean that the War Criminal can now start a new war anywhere on the globe that he perceives as a threat?

This is the first time I've seen it called a Global War and it just kinda jumped out at me. Maybe it's old news and I missed it? :shrug:

69. True. I frequently think at least they can't say he represents Democrats like
they used to all the time - "Democrats are split", blah, blah.

He doesn't represent us anymore. Thank Goodness.
